Job Summary

We are excited to be hiring for a Library Specialist at GateWay Community College. Come and join our Library team! This position performs varied technical and public services tasks at the paraprofessional level in an academic library. The person hired for this role will also perform essential functions for the library department, with a major focus on the processing and acquisition of library materials, as well as organization of the collection. This position assists the Collection Development Librarian with purchases and provides customer service to GateWay Community College Library users. The Library Specialist also performs circulation functions and may provide training and/or orientation to others.

Essential Functions

35% - Processes, purchases, receives, and tracks library acquisitions such as electronic resources, books, DVDs, and standing orders; coordinates library catalog records; monitors and maintains library collection funds, monthly expense reports, and statistics using the financial management system; performs basic book repairs.

35%: Administers collection inventory and/or missing material review biannually; fulfills, or cross-trains in, one or more of the following functional areas: Intra-district loan (IDL) requests using the integrated library system; Interlibrary loan (ILL) requests using the ILLiad system; library classroom reservation requests; serials management; debt resolution; monitors and compiles department records, logs, documentation, and statistics; utilizes appropriate software and technology in order to execute duties, including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, integrated library system and databases, and district management systems.

20% - Works as a contributing member of a diverse team to assist library patrons at the circulation desk with the use of library services; provides direct customer service at the circulation desk using an integrated library system; troubleshoots library technology, including computers, printers/copiers, and media equipment; assists with locating library materials, stack maintenance, and collection development; adheres to and reinforces library policies; compiles building occupancy statistics.

10% - Helps plan and participate in special projects, social media, and outreach programs; orders equipment and office supplies; serves on college/district committees; pursues professional growth; performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and one (1) year of experience in library support services such as library information resources, circulation services and equipment coordination.

OR

High School Diploma/GED and three (3) years of experience in library support services such as library information resources, circulation services and equipment coordination.

Desired Qualifications

A. Direct in-person patron experience in an educational and/or library setting

B. Library experience using an integrated library system in one or more areas of public access and/or technical services

C. Experience processing library materials (books and DVDs; serials; course reserves; other appropriate library materials)

D. Experience using technology such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Adobe, in various internet browsers, and/or office technology (such as printers/copiers, scanners)

E. Experience working with multicultural and diverse populations
