I.T. Computer Systems Managers manage and direct an Information Technology area at a College or University level. They set policies and procedures, direct technical staff, and maintain responsibility for administrative as well as technical issues within their assigned area(s) of responsibility. They may manage major and/or large, complex information systems activities and/or manage a unit or group.

CUNY TV, the City University of New York’s television station, has been educating and informing viewers for more than three decades, remaining committed to extending CUNY’s academic mission to offer lifelong learning opportunities to all New Yorkers. Established in 1985, CUNY TV reaches 7.3 million broadcast households in the New York metro area from its studios at the CUNY Graduate Center. CUNY TV is broadcast over the air on channel 25.3 and in the five boroughs via cable channels, Spectrum and Optimum on channel 75, RCN on channel 77 and Verizon FiOS on channel 30.

We are looking for an experienced CIO (Chief Information Officer) to oversee the use of Information Technology (IT) in a company. The successful applicant will be the one to devise the organization's IT strategy and ensure that all systems necessary to support its operations and objectives are in place. An excellent CIO must have a solid IT background and consistently keep up to date with advancements in the field. Apart from their education and experience, they must have every quality of a leader and a strong strategic and business acumen. The goal is to ensure that information technology adds the maximum value to our company to facilitate the success of our business.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Sets objectives and strategies for the IT department.

• Selects and implement suitable technology to streamline all internal operations and help optimize their strategic benefits.

• Designs and customize technological systems and platforms to improve customer experience.

• Plans the implementation of new systems and provides guidance to IT professionals and other staff within the organization.

• Approves purchases of technological equipment and software and establish partnerships with IT providers.

• Oversees the technological infrastructure (networks and computer systems) in the organization to ensure optimal performance.

• Directs and organizes IT-related projects.

• Monitors changes or advancements in technology to discover ways the company can gain competitive advantage.

• Analyzes the costs, value, and risks of information technology to advise management and suggests actions.

NOTES:

• An appointment to this Competitive title/position in the Classified Civil Service Title Series will be made with a Provisional status. Employees in provisional status must pass a competitive civil service examination and be appointed from a civil service list to remain in the title/position.

• Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Six (6) years of progressively responsible full-time paid information systems technology experience,at least eighteen (18) months of which shall have been in an

administrative or managerial capacity

in the areas of computer applications programming, systems programming, information systems development, data telecommunications, data base administration or a closely related area.

Education at an accredited college or university may be substituted for the general information systems technology experience at the rate of one (1) year of college for six (6) months of experience up to a maximum of four (4) years of college for two (2) years of experience. In addition, a master’s degree in computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for an additional year of the general information systems technology experience. However, all candidates must possess the eighteen (18) months of administrative or managerial experience described above.

Experience in an

administrative capacity

must include, but is not limited to, responsibilities such as: monitoring an IT budget; reviewing and approving IT procurement and invoice payments; reviewing and approving contracts with vendors; monitoring and approving IT projects; setting standards and best practices; risk evaluation (e.g., security, reputational, operational); organizational development; chairing or participating in IT Governance and Advisory committees; and/or overseeing vendor relationship management.

Experience in a

managerial capacity

must include, but is not limited to, responsibilities such as: strategic planning for an office/division; creating and implementing policies; setting standards and best practices; defining and documenting project scope; root cause analysis with recommendations; collaborating with other managers and executives to define future state of IT program; and/or forecasting.

The following types of experience are

not

acceptable: superficial use of preprogrammed software without complex programming, design, implementation or management of the product; use of a word processing package; use of a hand-held calculator; data entry; operation of data processing hardware or consoles.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or another related field.

• Proven experience as a CIO or similar managerial role.

• Excellent knowledge of IT systems and infrastructure.

• Solid understanding of data analysis, budgeting, and business operations.

• Superior analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

• A strong strategic and business mindset.

• Excellent organizational and leadership skills.

• Background in designing/developing IT systems and planning IT implementation.

• Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities.

COMPENSATION

The salary is

$150,000

.
