Position Overview

The Tribal Communications Manager is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies to promote and enhance the Pawnee Nation's visibility, reputation, and engagement. This role involves managing internal and external communications, media relations, public relations, and digital presence to effectively communicate the Pawnee Nation government's mission, vision, and initiatives.

Essential Functions

Communication Strategy Development :

Develop and implement comprehensive communication plans to support the strategic goals of the Pawnee Nation.Craft and disseminate key messages to various audiences, including Pawnee citizens, employees, the media, and the public.

Media Relations :

Establish relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.Prepare and distribute press releases, media advisories, and news articles.Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and manage media interactions.

Public Relations :

Promote a positive image of the Pawnee Nation through proactive public relations efforts.Coordinate public relations activities, including community events, press conferences, and special projects.Respond to public inquiries and manage crisis communication when necessary.

Internal Communications :

Develop and manage internal communication channels to inform Pawnee citizens and employees on important issues, events, and initiatives.Produce internal newsletters, memos, and other communication materials.

Digital Communications :

Oversee the Pawnee Nation's website and social media platforms, ensuring timely and accurate content updates.Develop and implement social media strategies to engage with the community and promote the Pawnee Nation's activities.Monitor and analyze digital metrics to measure the effectiveness of communication efforts.

Content Creation and Management :

Write, edit, and proofread communication materials, including speeches, articles, reports, and promotional content.Ensure all communications are culturally appropriate and align with the values and traditions of the Pawnee Nation.

Community Engagement :

Foster strong relationships with Pawnee citizens and community stakeholders.Organize and facilitate community meetings, forums, and other engagement activities to gather feedback and address concerns.

Brand Management :

Maintain and enhance the Pawnee Nation's brand identity and ensure consistency across all communication channels.Develop branding guidelines and provide training to staff on brand standards.

Collaboration and Coordination :

Work closely with various departments to ensure cohesive and coordinated communication efforts.Support elected, appointed, and civil service leaders with communication needs, including speechwriting and presentation development.Create generating portfolios to bring in programmatic dollars through partnerships, advertising, and other content to promote Pawnee tribal and community events.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Minimum

:

Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field.

Preferred

:

Six (6) years of work experience related to communications, public relations, journalism, or related field may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements.

Experience Requirements

Minimum

:

Three (3) years of work experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.

Preferred

:

Six (6) years of work experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Computer:

Proficiency in

Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer, etc., orMac Computer System, Mac OS, and Mac Software comparable to MS Office,

Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Contribute, etc.,Proficiency in the proper use and operation of standard office equipment (fax, copier, telephone, etc.) and information systems equipment.Communication:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong media relations and public relations abilities.Proficiency in digital communication tools, including social media platforms and content management systems.Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.Cultural sensitivity and understanding of Pawnee Tribal issues and values.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; and walk. The employee may occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level. Evening and/or weekend work is often required. Occasions may arise requiring work outdoors where exposure to natural weather conditions may occur. There is regular interaction with the public, other agencies, and employees. Tight time constraints and multiple demands from several and multiple demands from several people are common. Travel may be required for training, meetings, conferences, presentations, and other events.
