Works on corporate design and/or project level, institute and unit-level brand, marketing, and communications projects, providing design guidance and implementation of both digital and print deliverables. Collaborates with internal authors and stakeholders to design graphics for documents and publications

Responsibilities

- Meet with internal and/or external clients to discuss project goals/objectives, intended audience, budget available, specific information to be presented, and client expectations.

- Manage collaborative relationships and project development of design projects for both print and digital media for medium and small jobs.

- Projects may include but are not limited to digital content, newsletters, brochures, reports, flyers, poster presentations, posters, etc.

- Perform duties of task leader for project to include ensuring that materials are available for task completion; monitoring costs to stay within budget; providing guidance and assistance throughout project; discussing project with clients and team members at key project milestones.

- Prepare job estimates to be reviewed and approved by management.

- Produce rough sample of layout and present for approval.

- Understand and implement proper use of brand and identity guidelines for both internal corporate materials and external client branding guidelines.

- Uphold the design quality and brand identity in the development of all marketing and communication materials.

- Assist in/facilitate product naming brainstorms and selection following the established process and guidelines.

- Create product logos, assets, and guidelines in alignment with established brand architecture.

- Design graphic elements (i.e., logos, icons, illustrations, etc.) that support a larger visual system and document strategy with guidance for extended team members to reference.

- Designs visual information with the end user in mind.

- May partner with intellectual property and licensing team to ensure compliance of corporate imagery.

- Expand and evolve existing visual systems to meet future needs.

- Corporate role maintains and evolves guidance and assets for online Brand Hub.

- Coordinate production of small to medium design projects.

- Plan presentation of material:

- Determine size and arrangement of illustrative material.

- Select style and size of type; arrange layout based upon available space.

- Adhere to deadlines and budget constraints.

- Work with outside suppliers (e.g., print, display, video) to maximize company resources while maintaining high-quality project standards.

- May maintain digital media files including style sheets and optimized layout for all production of design materials.

- May employ tracking system for all design materials.

- Review final product with client and/or creative lead; make necessary changes.

- Ensure the completion of design projects in a timely manner.

- Handle several concurrent projects and work well under pressure and deadlines.

- Collaborates with and assists other designers when needed.

- Keep abreast of graphics-related technology and implement into projects.

- Participate in the continuous improvement of operations and processes.

- Provide general project support.

- May assist in strategic brand creative planning through the identification and evaluation of new tools and technologies.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of experience, Master's degree and 1 year of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Knowledge of layout principles, and aesthetic design concepts using computer software

- Working knowledge of visual design principles

- Basic knowledge of color theory and its use in graphic printing

- Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel

- Experience with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop a plus

- Experience with Canva, SharePoint, and email/newsletter tools a plus

- Experience of user experience design and principles a plus

- Working knowledge of accessibility design principles and application

- Understanding of branding design principles at corporate or project level

- Basic knowledge of legal copyrights, trademarks, and image licensing

- Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and communication skills

- Detail oriented, proactive, and be able to handle simultaneous projects

- Superior time and project management skills

- Basic knowledge of the possibilities, as well as the limitations associated with typesetting, photography, printing, and copying in order to plan project and avoid potential problems.

- Effective communication skills

- Ability to learn new skills and retain this knowledge for future projects

- Ability to manage requests from and interact with a variety of internal groups

- Ability to articulate the pros and cons of alternative design approaches

- Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines

- Ability to make aesthetic judgments concerning visual material

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, clients, and co-workers

- Ability to obtain proper security clearances as noted by contracts

- Skilled in job/client management skills, including client relation management, job tracking, working within budget/time constraints for medium projects, job scheduling for self and others

- Ability to work well with others

- Ability to listen and communicate well both verbally and in writing
