Job SummaryThe Corporate Communications Manager is a well-rounded, experienced communications professional who works strategically to position, protect, and promote the Independence brand to key external stakeholders. In this role, he/she will work with department leadership on all facets of communications, including media relations, content development, crisis communications, thought leadership, and more - to advance the goals of the organization. This role is part of the Corporate Communications team and reports to the Director of Corporate Communications. As this role will work closely with our Government Affairs team, the ideal candidate will have experience working in advocacy and/or public affairs communications at the state or federal level.Qualifications• Four-year degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related major.• A minimum of five years of progressive responsibility in communications, public relations, media relations, issues management and digital communications. Experience working in customer service, advocacy and/or public affairs communications at the state, or federal level preferred. Experience working in health insurance, health system, or other health care environment is a plus.• Excellent written and oral communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.• Strong media relations skills, including the ability to build relationships with news media representatives, proactively pitch stories and work with internal contacts to effectively respond to media inquiries.• Knowledge and familiarity with web and social media tools as well the ability to work with graphic designers, videographers, social media, and web professionals to produce content to tell the organization's story.• Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a fast-paced environment. Crisis communication experience is a plus.• Ability to think strategically as well as tactically, juggle multiple priorities, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.• Outstanding judgment and integrity and effective problem-solving and negotiation skills.• Ability to work in groups and individually to complete assignments and achieve team and individual goals.Key Responsibilities• Working with Corporate Communications leaders, serve as a trusted consultant and adviser to internal departments, including Government Affairs, Customer Service, and Consumer Marketing.• Strategically plan and execute communications that positively promote and protect those areas with external audiences.• Manage proactive and reactive news media relations related to legislative and public policy issues, member concerns, the company's COVID-19 response, and more.• Develop communications plans, craft key messages, and disseminate information to key internal stakeholders in support of company initiatives and events.• Work with web, social media, graphic design, and other professionals to produce content that effectively tells the organization's story.• Support department leadership on key company initiatives.
