The selected colleague will work at an MUFG office or client sites four days per week and work remotely one day. A member of our recruitment team will provide more details.

Role Summary:

This position is responsible for supporting and promoting MUFG in the Americas by conceptualizing and implementing high-impact communications strategies and tactics that are consistent with our overarching business objectives. The successful candidate must have proven experience across the broad spectrum of corporate communications to help drive content creation and distribution through a range of channels.

For this opportunity, MUFG places a high premium on exceptional interviewing, writing, and editing skills that are on par with those of a seasoned journalist. The ideal candidate must thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and have a proven track record of serving as a trusted communications advisor to senior-level executives and colleagues across the company. We are seeking someone who will exercise keen judgment and make well-reasoned recommendations to executive management. Excellent organizational skills, the ability to see assignments through with minimal oversight, and an eye for detail are also imperative.

This position is a blend of external and internal, requiring an experienced communications professional with strong business and financial acumen and experience building relationships across teams. The successful candidate will have solid background in generating various communications (i.e., executive town hall meetings, leadership messages, organizational change announcements, talking points, Q&A documents, speeches/remarks, biographies, video scripts, stories for company intranet, etc.). This is also a media relations role, which includes reactive and proactive, focusing on our core lines of business and key spokespeople.

This position is responsible for overseeing MUFG’s social media channels, governance, training, monitoring efforts, and alignment with strategic goals. The candidate will have knowledge of how social media works in a corporate environment and is familiar with the metrics that are used to measure engagement.

The Corporate Communications team’s operating model is collaborative and supportive; however, the expectation at the Director level is for the incumbent to quickly establish routines and proactively build critical cross-functional relationships throughout the organization, in addition to representing MUFG with absolute integrity. The ideal candidate must seamlessly integrate into a driven, high-performing communications team in order to achieve maximum effectiveness and have a passion for producing compelling content.

Main Responsibilities:

Manage the writing, editing, and execution of various internal documents, including stories for the company intranet, organizational announcements, remarks, thought leadership content, video scripts, etc.

Interact with the media and develop strategic communications plans to support the lines of business from an external standpoint.

Adept at interviewing a wide range of employees from senior executives to front-line staff and leveraging data, as necessary, to tell compelling stories

Craft impactful content for use across a variety of mediums (i.e., email, the company intranet, video channels)

Partner with project and content owners to write and edit a wide range of communications that reflect our business, vision, and goals

Track and analyze metrics to measure reach and effectiveness while identifying opportunities for improvement

Explore and implement new technologies and tools to improve efficiency and enhance audience engagement

Available to provide communications support in times of crisis and special situations, sometimes outside of normal business hours which may require spur-of-the-moment support

Effectively manage direct and indirect staff

Expected Qualifications:

B.S. or B.A. in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field. Advanced degree is highly desirable, but not required

Requires a minimum of 10 years of combined experience in corporate communications, either in a corporate communications division at a consultancy or a news organization. Prior experience with a publicly traded and/or financial services company is preferred

Must be a strong, effective communicator, capable of writing clearly and concisely; able to use sound judgment to gather, manage and impart information to various internal stakeholders consistent with the bank’s messaging and positioning; track record of engaging with senior executives

Proactively curating editorial content for internal audiences

Experience leveraging various platforms for communications in a banking environment

Managing the broad corporate communications process from sourcing story ideas through publication

Familiarity with corporate social media channels and associated strategies

Experience with social media channels and monitoring within a corporate environment

Strong computer skills (word processing, intranet, spreadsheets, presentations)

Strong project management skills and experience, excellent reasoning, analytical, and organizational skills

Experience effectively managing people

The typical base pay range for this role is between $164K - $201K depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonus and/or incentive compensation.
