OverviewMajor League Soccer seeks a dynamic professional with a proven track record of success in communications. Work experience in the areas of brand/consumer communications and sponsorship marketing, as well as significant experience in sports and/or entertainment is strongly preferred. The individual selected for this opportunity will have a deep understanding of all types of editorial media, including a strong grasp of the digital and social media landscape. Experience and significant relationships with editorial decision makers in the areas of business and lifestyle media are critical to this role.

This person who fills this role will possess an entrepreneurial spirit, acumen in executive communications and the ability to make decisions and executive plans in settings comparable to the fast-paced world of professional sports. The position is based in New York, NY.

Responsibilities

Lead communications strategy for organization’s key business units, including but not limited to, partnership marketing (sponsorship), brand alliance (new business development), emerging ventures, consumer products, social/digital media, and community engagement.

Serve as the team member to lead communications for 50+ corporate partners as it pertains to their activation around MLS/SUM.

Collaborate with internal departments, MLS clubs and external partners to drive storytelling to achieve desired program outcomes.

Develop corporate communications (off-sports page) strategy and serve as agency for clubs.

Manage communications for select executives through interviews, high-impact media opportunities, and events; prepare executives to ensure consistent messaging.

Serve as the organization’s partner for executive visibility strategy inclusive of endemic and non-endemic awards, conferences and lists.

Support communications strategy for MLS/SUM in the areas of business, lifestyle/entertainment, and philanthropy.

Support communications for various marketing and sponsorship initiatives around MLS’ marquee events (ex: MLS All-Star Game presented by Target, MLS Cup presented by Audi, among others).

Work closely with a variety of internal and external partners to manage communications the League’s consumption narrative.

In coordination with the Senior Vice President of International Communications, contribute towards business communications strategy of various SUM properties, including CONCACAF Gold Cup, Mexican National Team U.S. Tour, Campeones Cup, and Leagues Cup among others.

Successfully manage complex,

fast paced and unexpected communications opportunities, including select crisis situations.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree

12+ years of experience in Communications

Required Skills

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbally

Positive, engaging personality (in order to gain the respect of a variety of influential partners).

Knowledge of a second language (business proficiency) preferred

Total Rewards

Starting Base Salary: $200,000 – 220,000. MLS/SUM base salaries are contingent upon several factors including individual qualifications, market financials, and operational business needs.
