*This position has a starting pay of 58,739.20 with the ability to be higher depending on qualifications*

Duties and Responsibilities:

Ability to work the midnight shiftAnswers emergency and non-emergency calls, requests for service including law enforcement, fire and emergency medical assistance;Prioritizes and dispatches emergency responders and/or appropriate resources;Receives and transmits messages by radio and tracks all apparatus/units through Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD);Utilizes multiple maps to confirm locations and assist both internal and external customers;Other duties as assignedRequirements:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED). An Associate Degree in a related field is preferred.Five years minimum as an Emergency Communications Specialist is requiredPossession of a valid and appropriate driver's licenseCertified as a Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) and National Criminal Information Center (NCIC) operator or experience with NCIC and State Network, Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Communications Specialist certification or certified from another State and the ability to successfully complete the Virginia Basic Communications Academy. Ability to obtain certification in CPR and Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD)Successful completion of the APCO Communications Training Officer (or comparable course) and completion of at least 16 hours of leadership training. Successful completion of the APCO Communications Supervisor (or comparable course) within a year.
