Your new roleThis flexible, fully remote role in the US (East Coast) is within the newly established central design team. The successful candidate will help understand problems and craft impactful solutions in the enterprise research space, working with government, funder and large enterprise scale organisations. This is an exciting time to join the company with an opportunity to materially impact how design is done at Digital Science and create a positive impact for millions of people advancing global science.

We are looking for a senior level, strategic designer who enjoys working in complex, regulated environments to create meaningful impact and thrives in collaborating with multiple teams. Many of our design problems will revolve around efficiency, information retrieval and visualisation with a diverse range of opportunities to tackle some unique design challenges and interaction paradigms sparked by new technologies such as AI.

This role (due to Federal requirements) can only be satisfied by a "US citizen, US national, or US person" and additional checks may be required.We also require this role to be based in the East Coast of the US, within EST time zone.

What you'll be doingPartner with product teams and other designers to run both generative and evaluative design research projects leading to actionable insights - using a wide range of quantitative and qualitative methodsBring clarity, direction and collaboration to ambiguous design problems with conceptual design, remote workshopsRapid prototype and help envision pragmatic, simple and efficient product experiences which work within established constraints and solve problems in a systematic mannerWork in close collaboration with product, engineering and domain experts to co-create and quickly validate conceptual designs at appropriate fidelity levelHelp foster collaborative practices and rituals both within the design team and across adjacent disciplinesWhat you'll bring to the role

Extensive experience in delivering strategic and systematic UX work within enterprise, AI or other highly complex domainsAbility to own an end-to-end human-centred design process, working independently or in partnership with other designersIndependently conduct qual. and quant. design research activities and facilitate co-design workshops with senior C-level stakeholders, leading to data-informed design decisionsAbility to do rapid interactive prototyping in modern design tools (e.g Figma)Current US Public Trust clearance is preferred, as applicants will be subject to a security investigation and will need to meet eligibility requirements for access to sensitive informationFirm understanding and application of accessibility standards in design (WCAG, Section 508)Clear visual communication and storytelling skills to help communicate design rationale for the team and leadershipCollaborative, humble and consultative mindset - we are not rock stars here and we leave our egos at the door to be successfulAbility to strategically balance scope, speed and quality for the best outcomesExperience in mentoring designers, service design, designing for human - AI interactions, data visualisation or inclusive design would be an advantageHave a unique perspective, experience or a design skill which helps advance our mission?
