GENERAL SUMMARY

The Marketing Manager will play a crucial role in paid and organic marketing and promotions strategy, working closely with Communications, Production and Design to ensure the consistency of this messaging. The Marketing Manager reports to the Senior Manager of Digital Marketing and works closely with a variety of departments across the zoo to represent their initiatives, programming and mission through our branding, including zoo event promotions and ticket sales, tourism, and more. The role requires a high level of organization and knowledge of marketing tactics and efforts, ideally in a nonprofit, museum, or other cultural institution setting.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Create, collaborate on, and manage multiple and simultaneous marketing campaigns and brand tactics. This primarily includes zoo events and tourism efforts.

Manage campaign plans and calendars, identify channels for support, manage deliverables, track performance results, and produce post-campaign reports using data from combined sources.

This role is on a team responsible for earning revenue through event ticket sales.

Prospect new advertising opportunities.

Manage media buying, manage positive relationships with media vendors and requirements with partners, and sponsors.

Coordinate and track campaign revenue and spending. Collaborate with the Senior Manager of Digital Marketing on budget allocations according to overall strategies.

Consult with the Senior Manager of Digital Marketing on overall marketing strategy; make recommendations and activate departmental priorities.

In collaboration with the Senior Manager of Digital Marketing, use Salesforce, GA4, and other tools to gather data on audiences and campaign performance. Utilize tools to create dashboards, segment, and create new audiences.

Prospect, solicit, and coordinate paid and organic influencer relationships in collaboration with the zoo’s social media team.

Closely monitor and manage paid digital and paid social media tactics.

Work with social media team to share strategy, planning & execution between paid and organic social channels.

Create, publish, and evaluate paid social, paid search, and other digital advertising.

This role does not produce, post, or manage organic content creation on main brand channels.

Collaborate with marketing team on email strategy and tactics as it relates to campaigns.

Work with Production and Design teams on the execution of deliverables; submit team production requests.

Monitor on-grounds signage to ensure it remains current and aligned with marketing and event priorities and schedules.

Draft and deliver copy for marketing and ad campaigns.

Maintain open, honest, and transparent communication with entire team.

Help staff outside marketing opportunities. i.e. tabling at events, collaborations, etc.

Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Expertise in the fields of marketing, communications, media buying, and/or advertising.

Experience in the nonprofit sector, museum, zoo, aquarium, or other cultural institution a plus.

Superior organizational and documentation skills, project management a plus.

Superior writing skills, familiarity with AP Style. Experience writing for a variety of audiences.

Highly motivated, driven self-starter capable of independent work as well as team projects

Ability to set and meet deadlines, and to be organized.

Affinity for building relationships and communicating with anyone.

Ability to set campaign goals (including revenue goals) and evaluate performance.

Open-minded, creative and excited to implement new ideas.

Familiar with marketing trends in the event, experiential, and nonprofit industries.

REQUIREMENTS

3-5 years of experience in marketing, communications, event marketing, media buying, and/or advertising.

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or related field preferred.

Working experience in creating, executing, and evaluating multiple, simultaneous campaign strategies and plans.

Working experience in writing for a variety of audiences and on different platforms, especially for event marketing. This includes writing for email, website, paid social advertising, and other advertising channels.

Incredibly organized, experience in project management a plus.

Experience managing multiple budgets and creating and reaching revenue goals.

This role is on a team that has a revenue expectation through event ticket sales.

Experience with media buying.

Experience using data to drive decisions.

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Meta Business Suite and paid advertising on social media, Google products including GA4, and email software.

Familiarity with Salesforce, Adobe Suite, WordPress, and transactional software or platforms preferred.

Must be a team player and help to maintain a fun and positive work atmosphere

Available to work full-time, Monday-Friday, and some weekends based on event or zoo needs. Must be Chicago-based and available to work in the office in Lincoln Park at least 3 days/week and as job requirements dictate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to sit for long periods of time while viewing a computer monitor.

Ability to work in open office environment.

In addition, while all roles do not work directly with wildlife or zoo guests, all staff may be called upon at any time to support zoo operations. This could include work that indicates Lincoln Park Zoo’s physical requirements:

Ability to remain stationary for 3-5 hours/day, and to move around inside (office and/or warehouse environment) and outside (event production).

Ability to regularly perform a variety of physical tasks that may include but are not limited to climbing, bending, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and/or crawling. Reasonable accommodation will be made as needed.

Ability and willingness to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs.

Ability and willingness to operate and safely drive electric carts.

Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions.

Ability and willingness to wear required personal protective equipment.

No allergies to plants or animals exhibited on zoo grounds.

Ability to traverse zoo grounds.

Qualified applicants will receive a fifteen-minute phone call from the Senior Manager, Digital Marketing to talk about the position and answer questions, with those qualified moving forward to an hour-long, in-person interview with the Senior Manager, Digital Marketing and possibly an HR representative. Those moving forward will then conduct a final, virtual interview with select members of the Marketing & Communications department, including the Director of Marketing & Events. We are looking to fill this position by early September.

This positon reports to the Sr Manager of Digital Marketing

Salary: $55,000-$60,000
