Contra Costa County Department of Information Technology is seeking talented individuals to serve as key members of its Telecommunication team. The incumbent should be self-motivated, and able to plan network installations by studying technical specifications, and prepare an installation schematic. Under the guidance of the Telecommunications Lead, you would verify service by testing and re-programming circuits, equipment, and alarms as well as identifying and correcting problems, and conferring with WAN engineers.

Minimum Qualifications

License Required:

Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator's license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the application process.

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Education:

Twelve (12)semester or eighteen (18) quarter college units in telecommunications, electronic technology, or closely related field; AND

Experience:

Eighteen months of full-time, or its equivalent, professional enterprise-level experience, performing installation, servicing, and repair of large PBX or IP-based call manager phone systems for large corporations or government entities.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL BE REQUIRED TO PASS A SECURITY BACKGROUND CHECK AND PRE-EMPLOYMENT PHYSICAL:

As a condition of employment, finalists will be required to successfully pass the pre-employment screening requirements established for the position. The requirements are based on the assigned duties and responsibilities of the position. Candidates who cannot meet the medical requirement may be placed under waiver until this requirement is met.Telecommunication Specialists have to intermittently and at times repetitively bend, squat, and kneel to retrieve and handle supplies, perform repairs, complete installations, etc. They lift, move, and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds in general office areas and occasionally from other sites. On a repetitive basis they may reach at full extension or overhead while pulling. They may be required to maintain awkward positions for extended periods of time, lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to complete repairs or installations of phones, and may climb up and down ladders and pull cable through ceiling and walls.
