Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Five (5) years of full-time experience with digital and social media communications strategies and managing website, e-newsletter and social media content. Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google applications. Experience using Content Management Systems for websites. Experience in editorial and creative direction. Superior writing abilities with demonstrated experience writing feature stories or other written content that aligns with the strategic objectives of an organization. Preferred Qualifications:Professional work experience in a higher education environment. Familiarity with Stony Brook University and its processes. Experience with graphics/digital imaging software such as Adobe Creative Suite. Supervisory experience (supervision of students may be considered). Experience with effective graphic design, branding principles, and marketing. Professional work experience in a non for profit. Experience in developing strategy and communications plans for an organization and/or an administrator. Photography or video skills. Fundamental understanding of SEO, website analytics, social media metrics, and how to use data to make informed content decisions. Submit cover letter and resume for consideration. Brief Description of Duties:This role requires strong and versatile writing and editing skills, familiarity with best practices in design across print and web, ability to follow brand and style guidelines, and excellent editorial judgment. The Communications Manager will be expected to keep up with best practices in communications in a variety of formats and utilize feedback and analytics to optimize communications produced by and representing the Provost's Office and Academic Affairs. Technical skill in managing websites, e-newsletters, social media, and other digital tools is essential.

Duties:

Identify, research, and produce stories that highlight areas of academic excellence and innovation.Develop and maintain a communications calendar to track projects across social, web, email, and print.Draft messages on behalf of the Provost and Provost's leadership team to share critical information with the academic community.Develop communications channels (e-newsletter, social media, other digital media) and establish standards and strategy for each.Develop communications plans for signature initiatives and Provost's Office-hosted events, managing audio-visual and publicity needs through partnerships with SBU Marketing Communications, vendors, and freelancers.Set standards for broad communications sent through the Provost's Office.Support talking points and speeches for the Provost.Consult with Provost's leadership team on communications strategy for their initiatives.Oversee Provost's Office web properties, ensuring alignment with web design standards and requirements related to web accessibility and university branding, and advising on general best practices for website strategy.Review and report on key analytics and feedback across various platforms, including social, web, and email.Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.For this position, we are unable to sponsor candidates for work visas.
