Artist- Presentation

Summary of Position
Newsday, an award-winning news organization serving Long Island through its portfolio of digital and print products, has an opening for a versatile Presentation Artist. A preferred candidate has been identified for this position.
Essential Duties & Functions
- Responsible for design and layout of newspaper pages across all departments (news, features, business and sports).
- Works in collaboration with the photo department, the copy desk and assigning desk to create attractive and clear pages on a daily and advance basis.
- Works on special print sections and subscriber exclusives and will be required to collaborate on digital presentation as well.
- Handle all kinds of news quickly with great attention paid to accuracy, fairness and detail.
- Must be able to ask big-picture questions as well as sweat the details.
Essential Job Knowledge & Skills
- Photoshop and Illustrator experience required; experience with the Hermes layout system, designing tabloid-sized pages, writing headlines and working with data are a plus.
- Must be able to select and crop the strongest photographs for the desired design.
- Must have strong news judgment and editing skills, with a deep understanding of our products.
- Must be collaborative and communicative with colleagues across all platforms.
- Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously and meet aggressive deadlines.
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible and varied schedule to include weekends, holidays and extended hours as needed to support the business.
- The job requires three days in person at the Melville Newsday office.
Compensation
- The hourly base rate range for this role is $32.53- $53.37, commensurate with experience.
- This position is represented by the Graphics Communication Conference, PPPWU.
Physical Requirements
- Employees are generally required to work in the office and/or out in the field a minimum of three (3) days per week.
