The Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC) Communications Director leads and executes the production, editing, and strategic alignment of all organizational communications, including digital and print materials, social media, media relations, and speeches.ResponsibilitiesCommunications Management & Public Relations Duties – 30%Manage organizational announcements and announcement events with companies, localities/REDOs, and governmental agencies, maintaining clear and regular communication with all stakeholdersDraft and/or edit news releases, event briefings, talking points, and assist the departments in filling out surveys, speech writing, editing copy, and other public relations task as requiredMaintain expertise in media and public relations techniques and serve as resource for BRAC staff, economic development partners, and other external stakeholdersDevelop and maintain monthly communications calendar, managing email communications, press releases, report releases, etc.Serve as an editor for BRAC stakeholder communications as needed, providing guidance, content development, and proofing expertiseDraft and deploy regular internal communication pieces to keep BRAC staff informed on organizational progressSocial Media Management – 30%Develop and maintain content calendar for social accounts including Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn to align with BRAC annual marketing calendarWork with design team to develop images, graphics, and videos for use on social media platformsPost content and images according to scheduleMonitor social media communities and implement digital audits to develop, track, and report on KPIs and strategy recommendationsEngage with partner accounts and posts on behalf of BRAC as appropriateMaintain expertise in social media marketing techniques and economic development best practices and serves as resource for BRAC staffStrategic Media Relations & Spokesperson Duties – 30%Serve as organization’s media contact and spokespersonManage and monitor press interviews with BRAC staffMonitor regional news articles and forward critical issue articles to BRAC management and other appropriate staffManage BRAC’s media communications program that ensures maximum exposure of favorable Baton Rouge Area economic development articles in major business publications, economic development trade magazines, and vertical industry publicationsCoordinate planning and logistics of inbound media toursOther Duties – 10%Support department activities as needed (e.g. staffing events)Manage content and assets, in conjunction with other marketing team membersQualificationsBachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related fieldMinimum 5-7 years of marketing, communications, and/or public relations experienceStrong copywriting and copyediting skills are requiredConsiderable knowledge of general marketing, social media, collateral development, website management and communications techniques is keyBasic understanding of economic development principles and state and local government programsConsiderable and successful experience in developing and implementing effective communications strategiesExcellent project management and deadline management skillsExperience in mentoring junior team membersStrong analytical skills for measuring and optimizing marketing effectivenessAbility to lift 30-40 lbs.Mission and ValuesBRAC exists to accelerate economic opportunity in the Baton Rouge Area, for everyone.BRAC’s core values:Curious: We courageously step outside our comfort zones.Objective: We base our perspective and policy on unbiased analysis.Optimistic: We shape a future where success is not just achieved but redefined.Effectual: Focused on what we can control and influence, we lead with purposeful action.Collaborative: We believe our strength is in our partnerships.Authentic: We revel in the privilege of doing meaningful work.
