About the Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director of Membership and Marketing Operations, the Membership Program Manager is a pivotal member of the team responsible for driving $10M+ in earned revenue. The position is primarily responsible for stewardship of our current membership audience through communications and engagement programs, such as member previews, various events and programs. This person in this role supports the membership acquisition and renewal programs, as well as the membership operations efforts.

This position is based in San Francisco, California. Staff are currently expected to work from the Academy offices at least 2-3 times per week, which may fluctuate based on business needs. About the Membership Team:The Membership team leads efforts on behalf of our nearly 48,000 member households who are key supporters of advancing the Academy's important mission.

Key Responsibilities: Oversee membership editorial calendar and manage email publication schedule in support of major campaigns, revenue and attendance goalsPartner with Marketing, content creators and other colleagues from across the Academy to create and publish multiple email newsletters a month, developing and implementing testing strategiesManagement and continued development of membership welcome email seriesDevelop targeting and segmentation strategies for most membership communications including stewardship, payment plan emails, and welcome seriesSupport Membership Marketing Manager on acquisition and renewal communications (direct mail and emails)Lead membership website content updates in partnership with web editorial teamLead membership floor signage strategy and coordination with internal partnersOwn all aspects of exhibit members-only previews and member events; act as onsite lead and coordinate team at each eventIdentify, schedule and promote special members-only programming opportunities working with internal and external partners during biannual Members' Months and monthly member programsWork closely and strategically with internal and external partners to secure hosts and speakers and schedule monthly in-person and online member programs that engage and inspire core audiencesSupport department operational needs, including list pulls, data verification, complimentary membership processing, and providing membership email support for the Email teamAttend and represent membership at cross departmental strategy meetings and occasional evening eventsFollow all Academy safety regulationsOther duties as assignedQualifications:

A successful candidate will have the following:

Experience and/or Education:

3-5+ year(s) Marketing and/or communications experience preferredPrior experience in email marketing, digital marketing and knowledge of email platform(s), and CRM (Tessitura knowledge a plus)Excellent written and verbal communicationsMuseum and/or membership experience a plusExperience scheduling, producing and hosting live streamed online programs preferredKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Passion for the Academy mission and interest in science and science educationStrong organizational and multitasking skills with acute attention to detailAbility to work both independently and as a collaborative team memberStrong oral and written communication skillsRefined interpersonal skills, sense of humor, strong work ethic and willingness to get the job doneExperience partnering with external creative agencies and/or internal creative studios a plusPhysical Environment: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. Ability to perform repetitive motions 50% of the time.Hybrid work environment: required to be onsite 2-3 days a weekCompensation and Benefits:The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $87,000. Actual compensation will be commensurate with experience, skills/knowledge set, and internal equity. We believe in fair and equitable compensation practices and are committed to providing competitive salaries within the industry and market standards. The Academy offers a total compensation package that emphasizes both base salary and comprehensive benefits based on the hours per week worked.
