This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarilyat the Flagstaff Mountain campus with or without accommodation. Reporting to the Manager, Graphic Design (Creative Services), this position helps produce and finalize visual communication design that support department and/or university initiatives and objectives. Finalizes design solutions and occasionally creates basic design assets that can be delivered through a variety of channels for both print and digital delivery. Also collaborates and/or supports the print services team, ADA-related production duties, and Brand Management team’s design production needs. Maintains visual themes in compliance with university brand standards to ensure all visual communications to all university audiences are consistently on-brand. Responsible for producing all final design files and pre-flighting all final files to ensure proper image quality and resolution, correct fonts, color specs, file sizes, traps, bleeds, crops, per final output whether print or digital. This position is the final checkpoint in the creative design process.

Visual Communication Production - 65%

Creates final graphic design files to ensure all assets are ready for production whether in print or digital final delivery format. Occasionally creates some basic design assets from scratch per overall team volume.Understands the university brand’s visual communication strategies and can apply such to appropriate handling of the created materials.Plays a critical role in ensuring the quality of any design that represents the department or university.Identifies problems and potential improvements associated with the university’s marketing and communications materials creation and proposes recommendations for improvements to ensure effectiveness of the branding and marketing communications through print and digital design assets.Follows standard principles and guidelines with some latitude for personal decision making; any personal decision making is expected to utilize existing standards and procedures.Team Collaboration - 30%

Works with the Print Services team to provide ad-hoc print production support as needed. Creates simple designs, modified from existing templates, packaging/prepping files for print, pre-flighting, proof reviewing and approval. Ensure quality of all input and output.Supports ADA design team with design production needs.Supports the Brand Management Team’s ad-hoc design production needs.Other - 5%

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate or bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communications or related field.2-4 years of relevant experience.Any equivalent combination of related education, experience, and/or training.Preferred Qualifications

3-5 years of relevant professional production design experience.3+ years of functional experience within a university (or similarly complex) environment.

Knowledge

Intermediate knowledge of best practices in graphic design for marketing and communications.Intermediate knowledge of graphic design tools and processes for various media for file preparation, pre-flighting and proofing for relevant print and digital media applications.Knowledge of university policies related to the university’s visual identity.Knowledge of routine marketing tools, processes, and concepts.Skills

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus asthiscampushason-campus student housing. Salary

Anticipated salary range is $44,057 - $51,776. Annual salarycommensurate with candidate's qualifications and relatedexperience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits.
