This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Under general supervision, performs complex and creative art and graphic design functions for major publications and exhibitions for the Chicago Fire Department, and performs related duties as requiredESSENTIAL DUTIES* Conceptualizes thematic designs for print materials (e.g., logos, brochures, mounted displays, banners, web graphics)* Designs complex artwork using professional computer graphic programs (e.g., Adobe, Illustrator, Photoshop) or traditional art production methods* Discusses design specifications and creates presentations for client departments* Selects photographs and illustrations to be used in publications* Monitors the printing of publications to ensure specification standards are met* Designs and completes artwork and text for major exhibitions* Coordinates the preparation of different elements of displays to ensure design specifications and established deadlines are met* Meets with clients to obtain final approval of completed artwork* Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of related equipment and materials* Participates in ordering and maintaining graphic arts supplies* May oversee the work of less experienced graphic artists and provide technical assistance, as required* Participates in training staff in the use of basic design and exhibit installation tools, as requiredAdditional duties may be required for this position

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThree years of commercial artwork experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experiencePORTFOLIOApplicants selected for an interview must bring a portfolio that conveys strong graphic design principals. The works provided should be limited to professional public information campaigns and/or branding initiatives.1. The portfolio may either be a previous professional project, academic portfolio, or freelance work.2. Each portfolio submitted must have a minimum of two (2) work samples.3. All images must be original and free from copyright.If an applicant chooses to submit a portfolio containing confidential or privileged information, the applicant must identify the steps taken, (redactions, name changes, or consent from the client or employer) to preserve the confidential or privileged nature of the images.Please note that you can also provide a link to your online portfolio at the time of interview.Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:Bachelor's degree inGraphic Design, Visual Arts or a directly related fieldProficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) or other industry-standard toolsA commitment to staying updated on industry trends and continuously improving skills
