POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general direction of the Public Affairs Communications Manager, this position is responsible for the promotion and marketing of the City of Schertz and Schertz Magazine. This position helps the City execute communications and marketing plans to connect with its various internal and external audiences. Performs specialized work in graphic design, social media, website design, marketing/branding and video production to promote City programs, services, and activities. Must be able to discern work priorities, and meet deadlines as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Develops, coordinates, and monitors City messaging via social media and the city website to inform and educate the public; provides customer service through social media.Serve as a social media reporter for the City at City events.Develops social media campaigns to increase community engagement.Coordinates the City’s online presence and other digital communication tools.Supports the planning and execution of social media advertising.Tracks social media trends and prepares reports on city social media insights.• Assist the Communication Manager with ensuring integrated, coordinated, and consistent messaging across all city communication channels.

Maintains the City’s graphic identity guidelines by following and enforcing proper uses of logos, fonts, colors and other branded materials.Assist with the development and presentation of communication-related curriculum for internal training purposes.• Assist the Communication Manager with production, layout and design of city publications; proofreads and edits publications originating from Public Affairs, as well as publications/articles submitted from other departments.

Coordinate effectively with other employees/departments to gather information for newsletters and other promotional materials.Conducts interviews of individuals and attends gatherings to obtain items for publication, verify facts, and clarify information.Supports the Communication Manager with writing, editing and other production needs.• Consults with City staff to create, update, revise and manage marketing plans or campaigns for programs, events, and activities throughout various City departments.• Creates marketing and promotional materials for external media including social media, print publications, television, radio, billboards and other media outlets.

Assists other departments in designing and producing promotional materials, including brochures, flyers, web content, banners etc.Provides support to city departments in marketing, promotions for special events, campaigns, services and programs.Develops scripts and executes short videos for social media and Public Service Announcements.Assists the Communication Manager with development and production of the City’s Annual report.• Implements and coordinates proper promotion and representation for the City of Schertz and Schertz Magazine through networking and promoting at events, luncheons, chamber events, etc.

Maximize SchertzMagazine advertising revenue and resources to meet annual revenue goals by utilizing various sales and marketing tactics.Develop effective relations with buyers and key decision-makers in order to meet client and City expectations.Consistently study and stay informed concerning competitive and industry practices, rates, ratings, etc. in order to give clients accurate information.

• Assist with the planning and execution of the city’s media relations initiatives through the generation of media advisories, press releases, and statements.• Provide public outreach assistance and perform social media monitoring during emergencies as needed.• Manage special projects as requested.• Perform other job-related duties as required or directed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:• Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications, marketing or closely related field required. Two years related experience in the field preferred. Experience with video production preferred. Knowledge of municipal government functions and the Schertz community preferred.
