The Nightingale-Bamford School seeks an assistant teacher to work in the Art department supporting students from the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools for the 2024-2025 school year.

The ideal candidate is a motivated life-long learner who is passionate about the education of children and eager to work and collaborate with others. They demonstrate strong interest in visual arts, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and take initiative. Eager to learn and grow as an Art educator, the assistant will provide hands-on classroom and teaching with support from department members and other faculty in our Schoolhouse. Our teaching assistants are considered members of the faculty and are classified as exempt. Teaching assistants are assigned set weekly duties per cycle. This position reports directly to the chair of the Art department.RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):+ Serve as the assistant teacher for two sections of eighth grade Digital Imaging classes+ Teach one section of the fifth-grade art rotation in Experiments in Printmaking (project lessons will be provided)+ Provide studio assistance for Middle School classes in ceramics, darkroom photography and Lower School art+ Participate as a chaperone on class trips to museums and cultural institutions, assist with student artwork displays+ Provide classroom support and occasional class coverage+ Provide assistance on specific projects+ Meet with the department chair once per cycle for mentoring, to review

schedules, discuss main classes and any issues that arise+ Effectively and professionally communicate with students, parents, colleagues,

and administrators on academic matters+ Attend all relevant division and department meetings, and participate in

required professional development activities and events+ Take on additional assigned school duties (e.g., supervise study or lunch, etc.)

or temporary leave replacements if appropriateREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:+ Bachelor’s degree in a related field (BFA or BA in art education preferred)+ A well-developed sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the divers backgrounds of community members; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion+ An affinity for working with students and a passion and desire to pursue a

teaching career in Art+ Ability to work collaboratively with their department and other members of the community to regularly review and revise curriculum and teachin g practicesPERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL CHARACTERISTICS+ A shared understanding of the mission of the School and a demonstrated commitment to the core principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion+ Must demonstrate cultural competence and be able to understand, appreciate, and work with constituents across varied backgrounds and cultures+ Excellent attention to detail, professional attitude, good judgment, a high level of integrity and a strong work ethic+ Flexibility and initiative combined with the skills for thriving in a team environment to achieve institutional goals+ Exceptional interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with all levels of constituents+ Strong organization and project management skills+ Superb oral and written communication skills+ High level of initiative, proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.+ Must be able to work with a small team+ Excellent time-management skills+ Possesses a sense of humor and appreciates this trait in othersSALARY:In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $52,000 - $60,000.
