Who We AreSumter County Library System drives connection and collaboration by providing library customers, resources, services, professional programming, and face to face support.At the Sumter County Library System, you will have the opportunity to serve customers from both the leisure lifestyle of The Villages, FL and the Old Florida living of Sumter. The public library facilitates an atmosphere for all to receive inspiration and entertainment!The primary responsibilities of the Library Associate 3 are conducted at the main public service point; the Circulation Desk. Library team members provide continuous customer service by creating library cards, checking out library books, movies, hot spots, and recreational supplies. Shelving books, placing reservation holds on library resources, handling fines/fees, processing lost materials, and problem solving customer accounts are daily transactions. The Library Associate 3 team member participates in the facilitation and physical set up of library programs, tours and outreach events.The library team succeeds in providing each customer a positive experience as we participate in in-person collaboration and the recognition of each other's attributes and achievements.RequirementsWho We Are Looking For:An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience requiredLead, demonstrate, and provide excellent customer service by welcoming customers with a warm smile and a sincere greetingProvide consistent and excellent customer service to allProvide library customers entertainment, education, technology, and community through lending materials and supporting programsSkillfully equip customers and team members with library informationProactively educate and train customers and team members in an automated and technological environmentMust work on-site in the libraryMust have a H.S. Diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferredPunctual and regular attendance is requiredMust have reliable transportationMust be able to work SaturdaysMust be able to work as early as 8:00 AMMust be able to work as late as 7:15 PMMust have strong customer service skillsMust work well with diverse populationsMust be proficient at AlphabetizationMust be proficient in using app-based devices, computers, printers, fax machines, Microsoft Office, and office equipmentMust possess and demonstrate excellent written and oral communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skillsMust utilize considerable sound judgment, discretion and initiative in developing solutionsPhysical RequirementsMust be able to frequently move from place to place within the locationMust be able to file and retrieve books and other items on high/low shelvesMust be able to lift, push, pull, hold, carry heavy boxes, books, and other equipment weighing up to 35 poundsMust be able to work in confined spaces, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and climbMust be able to sit for long periods of timeMust be able to maintain focus on assignmentsThe above position description is not intended as, nor should it be construed as, exhaustive of all duties, responsibilities, skills, efforts, or working conditions associated with this job.
