And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.****Job Description**The Video Producer will use a passion for visual storytelling to create interesting, original Opinion Video journalism for our mobile, social and digital audiences. This video producer will work with reporters, editors and external collaborators to invent fresh angles and original perspectives that enhance our news coverage and enterprise coverage of current events.**The Video Producer will** :+ Pitch, research and develop original projects that are journalistically powerful and visually transformative.+ Conduct casting by pre-interviewing subjects.+ Write opinionated scripts for video with a flair for commentary.+ Assistant editing and assisting with shooting video or field directing and producing, when necessary.+ Archival video research, including culling news from a variety of open sources.+ May occasionally be asked to field produce from remote locations, including interviewing on location.+ Transform reporting and argument into tangible digital video formats.+ Perform related work as assigned.+ Will handle newsroom deadlines and manage projects at any given time.+ Must be open to experimenting with new ideas.+ Experiment with different forms of short-form vertical video storytelling.+ Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.+ This role reports to the Director of Opinion Video.**Basic Qualifications** :+ 5+ years of multimedia storytelling, reporting, video editing and production experience at a news organization.+ Adept video editing skills with Adobe Premiere.+ Excellent news judgment and ability to work with colleagues and reporters to synthesize news gathering and investigations into a tight, informative and engaging video.+ Experience creating original videos that incorporate audio, video, still images and text.+ Facility in using photo, video, graphics and animation in storytelling.**Preferred Qualifications** :+ Experience with design and animation software: Figma, Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects.+ Have a portfolio of original reporting, scoops, FOIA requests or beat reporting.+ Visual design skills: including a clear grasp of typography, layout, color, motion, and behavior.+ Open to working a flexible schedule.+ Can work under deadlines in a high-pressure newsroom environmentThis position is represented by the NewsGuild of NY.The annual base pay salary for this role is between $79,364.85 and $85,000.00.**The New York Times is committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce, one that reflects the varied global community we serve.
