Crown Publishing Group is seeking an Assistant Director to join its Production Editorial department, reporting to the Executive Managing Editor. You will be a key member of a management team and will support the dynamic Crown and Crown Currency imprints, publishers of bestselling fiction and nonfiction and such authors as Barack Obama, Erik Larson, Mustafa Suleyman, Sally Rooney, Liane Moriarty, and many others. Before applying for any role at Penguin Random House, we recommend you review our applicant resources pageand look over our open-to-remote guidelines on our FAQs page.Responsibilities include:• Work with the Managing Editor, Publishers, and editorial team to create and maintain schedules, anticipate and solve problems, and improve workflows.• Work with other Production Editorial Directors to lead, manage, and support the PE team: assign titles; provide oversight and backup; advise on bookmaking standards and matters of style; analyze and implement workflows within the PE team and with other departments.• Supervise at least two PEs.• Production edit 15 to 20 original titles per year.Required Skills / Knowledge / Experience:• A minimum of 7 to 10 years’ experience as a production editor at a trade publishing house.• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.• Flexibility and creativity, and the desire to face challenges and to adapt and improve processes, with respect for all stakeholders.• Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills and a working knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style. 17th edition, and Webster’s, 11th edition.• Detail- and accuracy-oriented; organized; able to set priorities and remain levelheaded under pressure.• Ability to production edit complicated projects in a deadline-driven environment, maintaining high standards and juggling multiple projects.• Manage a large roster of freelance copy editors, proofreaders, and indexers; supervise and evaluate their work; recruit and develop new freelancers.• Strong computer skills, including mastery of Microsoft Word, electronic text coding, and Adobe Acrobat.The salary range for this position is $80,000-$95,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results. Penguin Random House job postings include a good faith compensation range for each open position.
