PROBATION

The assists the criminal justice system in Orange County, California by making a safer Orange County through positive change. Under the direction of the Chief Probation Officer, a dynamic executive team with an organizational structure comprised of three bureaus - Adult Operations, Juvenile Operations, and Administrative Services - serves the community using efficient and research supported corrections practices to reduce crime, assist the Courts in managing offenders, promoting lawful and productive lifestyles and assisting victims.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Under general supervision, produces printed and visual graphic media through the use of electronic publishing equipment and software. Uses computers to develop a variety of camera-ready and photo mechanicals for brochures, newsletters, reports, displays for public presentations, and promotional materials; and to do other work as required.

The Computer Graphics Specialist will be responsible for the following:Create and design layouts and artwork for departmental publications, including the Probation Monthly Newsletter, reports from various Probation Department Work Groups, and a new leadership development series and other projects as assigned.Design visuals and media for department flyers, packets, and folders for job fairs and conferences, showcasing current programs, initiatives, and accomplishments.Use video editing software, digital editing software, and social media layout designs to create communication materials.Work with the Public Information Officer on the redesign and maintenance of the Department's outward facing website and its internal website. Engage stakeholders in these processes to ensure a high quality and technologically advanced product is rendered.Provide guidance and suggestions to requesters regarding available options or solutions to challenges in departmental publications and communication campaigns.Operate and maintain digital editing software and publishing equipment to design and create newsletters, posters, and marketing materials.Coordinate with Orange County Printing and Graphics for printing departmental communication materials like flyers, pamphlets, and posters.Maintain stock of supplies and order equipment and materials as needed.Proofread documents and materials such as newsletters, posters, fact sheets, marketing materials, and social media posts for accuracy.Research, identify, and recommend the acquisition of hardware and software to ensure the use of current programs for graphic computer artwork.Maintain a project calendar and log and communicate with the Public Information Officer or other department personnel regarding project progress and timelines.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIESThe ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of professional graphic design experience, including completing printed materials and web design. They must be proficient in Adobe applications (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom, Premier Pro, Acrobat Pro DC), Canva, and MS Office programs (Publisher and Visio), and skilled in using DSLR/Mirrorless cameras with lighting. Familiarity with social media management and listening platforms such as Hootsuite, or equivalent. The candidate should demonstrate success in professional print projects, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple drafts and proofs are essential. The ideal candidate will possess extensive professional work experience and/or knowledge in the following competencies:

Technical Knowledge and Experience

Knowledge of and experience with digital editing software, publishing equipment, and other relevant tools.Ability to research, identify, and recommend appropriate hardware and software for graphic design and publication needs.Proficiency in creating layouts, artwork, and visuals using graphic design software.Ability to design various types of communication materials including newsletters, flyers, posters, and social media graphics.Competence in using video editing and digital editing software to create and edit multimedia content.Experience in producing high-quality visual and multimedia content for departmental communications.Willingness to stay updated with the latest design and editing software and tools.Flexibility to adapt to new technologies and incorporate them into workflow for improved productivity and quality.
