Sustainable Surf is a 501c3 non-profit based in California. Our mission is to reverse climate change and regenerate the health of the ocean planet. We blend non-profit activism with entrepreneurial business methods, to create a highly innovative culture that is having a global impact with the potential to scale much higher.

The SeaTrees program protects and restores blue carbon coastal ecosystems globally, including kelp and mangrove forests, seagrass meadows, coral reefs, and coastal watersheds. These are the most impactful ecosystems on the planet for carbon sequestration and are biodiversity hotspots. We currently operate over 16 projects around the world, with a goal of developing 100 projects by 2030.

The Ecoboard Project program has defined the standard of a more sustainable surfboard, and is now being used by the world's best surfers and surfboard brands. Since 2011, over 450,000 verified Ecoboards have been manufactured globally.

Job Description

We are seeking a creative, organized Social Media and Community Manager with strong communication and content creation skills. This person will be responsible for managing our social media presence, increasing followers and engagement, and creating compelling content that aligns with our mission. The ideal candidate will have a passion for environmental conservation, surfing, and experience in social media strategy and community management. This is a full-time position based in Southern California, (preferably North San Diego County).

Key Responsibilities:Content Creation and Management:Develop, curate, and schedule engaging content across all social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok) for both @sea.trees and @sustainsurf.Create visually appealing graphics, videos, and other multimedia content that aligns with the brand and mission of both SeaTrees and the Ecoboard Project.Write compelling captions, posts, and stories in the brand voice that resonates with our audience and inspire action.Organize and upload videos and ads to youtube channel and organize playlists.Assist the Communications Director in writing and editing blog posts and newsletters.

Community Engagement:Monitor and respond to comments, messages, and mentions in a timely and professional manner.Identify and cultivate relationships with key influencers and advocates to amplify SeaTrees' reach and impact.Organize and manage social media campaigns and special projects.Lead community engagement initiatives, including The Ecoboard Project, to foster partnerships and increase community involvement.Promote and support The Ecoboard Project through social media content, blog posts, and online campaigns.

Brand Ambassadors:Manage and coordinate SeaTrees' brand ambassador program, including recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing communication.Develop and provide resources, guidelines, and content for brand ambassadors to share across their networks.Track and measure the impact of brand ambassadors' activities and provide regular reports.

Event Management:Assist in planning, promoting, and executing virtual and in-person events.Attend and represent SeaTrees and the Ecoboard Project at events, engaging with attendees and creating real-time social media content.

Strategy and Analysis:Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy to grow' the online presence and support fundraising and awareness campaigns for our two programsAnalyze and report on social media performance metrics, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.Stay updated on social media trends, best practices, and emerging platforms and tools to keep SeaTrees' content fresh and relevant.

Qualifications

Qualifications:Proven experience as a Social Media Manager or similar role, preferably in the nonprofit or environmental sector. (2-3 years required)Experience working with a nonprofit (Preferred)Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong ability to tell stories and engage audiences.Knowledge of climate change solutions and ocean health issues, preferably with some science/conservation background.Proficiency in social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer, Sprout Social) and analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, Meta Ads).Strong understanding of social media platforms, trends, and best practices.Creative mindset with a keen eye for design and attention to detail.Experience in Event Management, Fundraising and coordinating our AmbassadorsAbility to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, remote environment.Strong organizational, communication, and administrative skills demonstrating the ability to manage complex projects and multiple tasks.Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva).Video editing skills and experience creating multimedia content.Knowledge of SEO and content marketing strategies.Experience in community management and influencer relations.Experience in managing brand ambassador programs and coordinating events.Experience in writing and editing blogs and newsletters.Additional Information
