Role Overview:

Do not wait to apply after reading this description a high application volume is expected for this opportunity.We are seeking a versatile and dynamic visual journalist to lead our creative teams specializing in multimedia, video, and photography direction. You will be a core part of our editorial leadership team, determining the look and feel of The Standard’s storytelling across platforms, and devising new formats and visual expressions for our journalism. You will recruit and lead the team responsible for all of the visual media on the site, devise new editorial features, and develop the training and workflows necessary to build on those plans.

You will lead a talented group of visual creators, collaborating closely with editorial staff to enhance storytelling through engaging visual content. You will oversee the collaboration of photographers on assignment, photo editors on duty, and visual editors across our social media and video desks, helping to captain the assignment, production and publishing of pieces in a variety of formats.

When news breaks, or the Big One strikes, you will leap into action, helping steer The Standard’s coverage of events and deploying critical resources with an eye toward quality, speed and innovation.

Responsibilities

Conceptualize and oversee the production of photo, video, illustration and multimedia projects, ensuring alignment with editorial objectives and audience engagement goals.Visualize and execute the publication’s ambitious editorial vision, providing creative direction to achieve high-quality storytelling through visual media.Lead and inspire a team of photographers, photo editors, videographers, illustrators, and social media creators, fostering their professional growth and ensuring consistent quality in visual content.Collaborate with editors and reporters to develop visual strategies that elevate journalistic narratives across various platforms.Manage production timelines and budgets for multimedia projects, ensuring efficient workflow and resource allocation.Stay current with industry trends and technological advancements, including generative AI tools, to innovate and enhance visual storytelling capabilities.

Requirements:

7+ years of experience in multimedia production, with a focus on video and photography direction.Proven track record of leading creative teams and successfully executing multimedia projects from concept to completion.Strong portfolio showcasing your work in multimedia storytelling, with examples of projects that demonstrate your creative vision and technical proficiency.Expertise in digital content creation, including proficiency with editing software and production tools.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment, with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.Experience managing production timelines and budgets for numerous projects, ensuring efficient workflow and resource allocation.Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Candidates must be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area to work in a hybrid workplace, where employees are expected to be in the office four days a week.
