And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.****Job Description**The New York Times is looking for a creative Staff Editor to focus on visual storytelling and production for The Times’s accounts across multiple social platforms.The hours for this role are 2pm - 10pm ET and we would expect the Staff Editor to work from our NY, LA or SF office (11am - 7pm PT).You will work on daily news, features, enterprise and investigative projects. You will coordinate with journalists on our visual teams with an understanding of editorial priorities. Part of your role will be to focus on speed for news, build a regular publishing cadence, experiment with formats, and optimize workflows.You have expertise with visual storytelling including experience writing and editing for narration, social copy and photo editing. You have strong work samples with a deep understanding of modern social visual storytelling and a great awareness of trends on social and emerging platforms. You are a fast learner with creative ideas and can work collaboratively.**Responsibilities:**+ Tell stories visually in card form with various media assets+ Write text, wordsmith and copy edit+ Use photo, video, graphics and animation in storytelling+ Demonstrate excellent news judgment+ Demonstrate grasp of signals from mainstream and emerging social channels.+ Work with a team of social media and audience producers to execute visual content off platform; this would include breaking news, features and series, and our investigative news+ Collaborate with newsroom colleagues on different desks to produce social media visuals and publishing elements for a wide range of stories.+ Coordinate with the social team and social editors to program social content+ Experiment with different forms of vertical and mobile visual storytelling.+ Collaborate with visual editors to come up with social formats that align with Graphics, Video, Photo and Design teams’ goals and strategy.+ Demonstrate support and understanding of ourvalue of journalistic independence (ytco.com/company/mission-and-values/) and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.+ This role reports to the Assistant Editor, Social Visuals.**Basic Requirements:**+ 4+ years of multimedia storytellingand production experience.+ Experience in social media or digital journalism for a news organization.+ Demonstrated ability to create presentations that intelligently incorporate audio, video, still images and text.+ Strong skills with Adobe Premiere, Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects+ Visual design skills — a clear grasp of typography, layout, color, motion, and behavior.+ Excellent news and editorial judgment+ Deep understanding of all mainstream and some emerging social channels.**Preferred Requirements:**+ Ability to meet deadlines and to operate in a daily, unpredictable news production environment.+ Experience working collaboratively with members of a mixed-media team.+ Willingness to work a flexible schedule that may include nights and weekends.+ Must be able to make quick decisions under deadlines and a high-pressure newsroom environment.+ Strong writing and editing skills, and knowledge of Times style or the ability to absorb and apply it quickly.Applications without links to work samples will not be considered.This position is represented by the NewsGuild of NY.The annual base pay salary for this role is between $111,711.62 and $112,000.00.**The New York Times is committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce, one that reflects the varied global community we serve.
