Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.Weir Farm National Historical Park’s mission is to preserve unimpaired the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations. Specifically, to preserve and provide opportunities for visitors to preserve a significant site of the tradition of American Impressionism; maintain the integrity of a setting that inspired artistic expression and to offer opportunities for the inspirational benefit and education of the American people.Environmental Stewards, in partnership with the National Park Service, Weir Farm National Historical Park is seeking a Visual Information and Natural Resource Stewardship Intern. This individual’s schedule will be 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekends for special events. This youth internship is available to youth 30 years and under, or US Veterans 35 and under. The intern is responsible for housing and transportation. Please note a background check is required for this internship.This opportunity is ideal for enthusiastic young professionals who are deeply committed to the preservation of our national parks or for recent graduates pursuing careers or interests in natural and cultural resource preservation, education, interpretation, recreation, resource management, or working for the National Park Service. The program provides an introductory, hands-on approach to various aspects of working in a historical park and natural resource setting.This internship will provide a variety of experiences in visitor service, interpretation, information technology, natural and cultural resource management, and National Park Service careers. The intern will assist the park’s natural resource staff by assisting with habitat restoration and grounds preservation and maintenance projects, as well as complete research and behind-the-scenes projects that contribute to parkwide goals. Intern will split their duties between natural resource preservation and behind-the-scenes work on the park website and social media platforms. Applicants must demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal, computer, research, writing, and organizational skills.Position Responsibilities will include:· Develop content for park website, make updates to Park website, provide recommendations for content improvements.· Participate in virtual public outreach programs including design of an online exhibit for the park website and additions to virtual interpretation.· Work collaboratively with natural resource division to contribute to gardens and grounds maintenance.· Assist with special projects related to natural and cultural resource preservation.Minimum Requirements:· Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills.· Ability to bend, stoop, crawl, lift, and carry.· Willingness to work in variable temperatures (hot, cool, and humid).· Ability to work with park staff, independently or in a group.· Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)· Experience in the NPS CMS system or other website design program.· Qualities desired: Positive attitude, ethical, honest, reliable, punctual, and professional.Preferred Qualifications:· Young professionals who are deeply committed to the preservation of our national parks.· Recent graduates pursuing careers or interests in natural and cultural resource preservation, education, interpretation, recreation, resource management, or working for the National Park Service.Benefits:Position is eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program. Value of education award is $3,447.50.Intern will receive a weekly living stipend that will total to $630. You will be exposed to hot, humid weather in the summer and cooler temperatures in the winter months.
