Job Title: Custom Framer & Studio Assistant
Reports To: Studio Owner & Chief Restorer
Employment Type: Part-Time
At Art & Frame by Kat Wolf Studio, we believe every piece of art — whether historical, personal, museum-displayed, city-managed, or corporate — deserves to be treated with care, precision, and craftsmanship. With a legacy rooted in excellence since 1995, our Davie-based studio specializes in fine art restoration, conservation framing, and custom display solutions for individuals, municipalities, collectors, museums, galleries, and yachts.
We're a small, talented, and friendly team who take immense pride in bringing art to life through skilled restoration and framing. If you're creative, hands-on, and meticulous by nature, we'd love to welcome you into our studio family.
Purpose of the Role
As a Custom Framer & Studio Assistant, you will support the entire custom framing process — from design consultation to assembly — while contributing to the daily operations of a busy, high-quality art and framing workshop. This is a unique opportunity to expand your knowledge in conservation and archival-quality framing while working on a wide variety of fascinating projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Craft custom frames to museum-quality standards, including cutting and assembling moldings, mats, glass, and backing
- Stretch canvases and mount artwork with care and precision
- Safely operate hand and machine tools including mitre saws, Speed-Mat mat cutter, staple guns, drills, and other framing equipment (training provided)
- Maintain tools and equipment to ensure optimal safety and performance
- Provide design consultations to clients, offering advice on frame styles, mat colors, materials, and finishes
- Generate quotes and process transactions using Square POS
- Log and track project details accurately, including timelines and client preferences
- Troubleshoot creative solutions for non-standard or three-dimensional items (e.g., textiles, memorabilia, artifacts)
- Handle all artwork and finished frames according to conservation best practices
- Contact clients when projects are complete and ready for pick-up
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering supplies as needed
- Assist with opening and closing the shop, maintaining a secure and clean studio environment
- Occasionally assist with on-site installations or deliveries when required
Candidate Profile – What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to lift and safely handle large and sometimes heavy artwork and framing materials
- Excellent attention to detail, hand-eye coordination, and manual dexterity
- Strong visuospatial and basic mathematical skills
- Confident communication and customer service skills
- Ability to stay organized and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
Preferred (but Not Required)
- Prior experience in custom framing, particularly shadow boxes or large pieces
- Familiarity with conservation framing techniques and standards
- Experience with hand-finishing frames using paints, waxes, or stains
- Background in visual arts, design, or related fields
- Experience with dry mounting, textile framing, or 3D object presentation
- Basic proficiency in Photoshop, Microsoft Office, and/or Google Suite
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating well in a team
- Reliable, self-motivated, and eager to learn our studio's standards and style
