*The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Dentistry*seeks a dynamic and experienced*Director of Communications*. As a key member of the Dean’s senior leadership team, the Director will lead, develop, and implement a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy to enhance and build on the school’s reputation. The Director will be a strategic thinker and leader, promoting the school’s news, initiatives, and achievements to diverse audiences, including patients, students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the general public. The Director must maintain an awareness of national, regional, and local healthcare issues, with an emphasis on oral healthcare, as well as higher education and legislative issues. Exempt regular staff receive a generous PAID leave package that includes over 4 weeks of vacation accrued each year, 15 paid holidays, 3 personal leave, unlimited accrual of sick time, and comprehensive health insurance; professional learning and development programs; tuition remission for employees and their dependents at any University System of Maryland school; and flexible work schedules (if applicable per job). *Essential Functions/Strategy and Senior Leadership* * Leads a team of communications professionals and collaborates with colleagues across the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) to develop and implement a comprehensive strategic communications, marketing, and engagement plan. This plan aims to advance UMSOD’s strategic goals, amplify its voice and position nationwide, and enhance the UMSOD and UMB brands to broaden impact and enrich their reputation. * Develops a comprehensive and adaptive strategy addressing social, legislative, environmental, and market factors to represent the School's vision, position, history, and priorities. * Plans, develops, and executes high-level messaging, high-profile projects, and nationally recognized events. * Leads the development and implementation of the web strategy to enhance user experience, improve accessibility, and effectively communicate the School's mission, programs, services, and achievements to a broad audience. * Provides leadership and executes public relations and marketing strategies, programs, and communications to increase familiarity with and support for the School or University’s mission and programs. Confers with senior leadership to plan marketing and public relations strategies and objectives for the short and mid-term future. Directs the planning and execution of communications campaigns and special events. * Develops and maintains relationships with external vendors, managing procurement and performance according to annual contracts. * Manages the Office of Communications budget. * Performs other related duties as assigned. *Collaboration and Representation within UMB and the Community* * Build and maintain partnership relationships with other campus offices or departments or with external organizations, corporations, or schools to advance the mission and programs of the school or University. * Maintain and nurture relationships within the University, System and/or state government that allows advancing the image, programs, and mission of the school/ institute. Confer with business partners and campus leadership on issues pertaining to the promotion and understanding of the school. * Represents the department through participation in campus meetings and special projects, as well as UMB on an external basis with USM headquarters and other system-wide units. * Work with other UMSOD leadership on communications planning including: o Working with the Assistant Dean for Admissions on implementing strategic marketing and communication for student recruitment for various academic programs. o Working with the Assistant Dean for Development and Alumni Relations to achieve alumni and external constituency goals. o Working with the Assistant Dean of Research and Graduate Studies to promote, advance, and broaden the reach of UMSOD research o Working with the Special Assistant to the Dean on high-level, visible UMSOD functions including public relations, event management, research promotion, internal communications, and more. *Leadership of the Communications Team* * Provides leadership and inclusive supervision to the Office of Communications team, promoting collaborative cross-unit teamwork, open communication, and responsible self-direction * Stays current on changing technologies and news trends. Responsible for updating staff accordingly. *Education:*Bachelor’s degree. *Preferred Education:*Advanced degree in communications, marketing, graphics design or related field. *Experience:*Six (6) years of experience in marketing, public relations, communications, or media, public or client relations. *Preferred Experience:*Experience in higher education strongly preferred. *Supervisory Experience:*Two (2) years of experience at a management or leadership level *Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:* * Understanding of online marketing fundamentals (paid, earned, owned) including SEM, SEO, display, retargeting, social media (paid and organic), and email marketing (list acquisition/exchange). * Ability to work with multiple stakeholders to develop and produce effective web content and optimize visits to websites and landing pages. * First-hand experience managing digital marketing, in particular strategic planning, brand building, website management, content generation and marketing, digital advertising, social media management and managing digital asset development. * Ability to manage and prioritize communication requests and knowledge of tools to assist with queuing/scheduling messages. * Experience with project management and overseeing large-scale projects. *Hiring Range: $125,000 - $135,000 (Commensurate with education and experience) * UMB is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
