(full-time)Email a Friend Save Save Apply NowJob DescriptionACCESS SERVICES ASSISTANT, MIT Libraries-Hayden Library-Information Delivery and Library Access (ID&LA), to actively assist with all circulation, reserves, and service desk operations; be responsible for physical space management; and assist patrons with the use of equipment and systems provided by the Libraries. Duties will include providing in-person service regarding library services, collections, and equipment; interpreting policies and procedures to users; helping train staff and student employees; participating in activities such as book searching, shelving, collecting statistics, handling financial transactions, sorting and delivering library materials, and identifying opportunities for service improvements; performing some processing of materials and working with staff to resolve problems, correct errors, and maintain the physical condition of collections; participating on local and library-wide committees/teams/groups/projects; and performing other duties as assigned. A full job description is available at it.edu/about/organization/jobs/.Job RequirementsREQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; at least six-months of direct/related experience that provides an understanding of library or service functions; experience using library catalogs; ability to use basic business software (e.g., MS Office, e-mail, calendaring) and an interest in learning new software/systems/technology; initiative; flexibility; ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a busy and dynamic environment; strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills; and ability to work and contribute both independently and as part of a service team and to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of people. PREFERRED: college degree or related coursework; experience in an academic/research library; basic training or teaching experience; experience working with specific library software in use at MIT (e.g., Aleph, Alma, ILLiad, and/or RAPID ILL); and experience compiling, managing, manipulating, and presenting data (e.g., Excel, Access, Tableau). Job #24260-4Work conditions: moving objects/boxes weighing up to 40 lbs., pushing/pulling loaded carts weighing up to 150 lbs., bending and reaching to shelve and shift library materials, and exposure to dust.Hourly rate: Min: $20.12 - 27.17 - 34.21, with actual salary based on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time (35 hrs/wk.) position. The schedule is Sunday through Thursday, 1:00 to 9:30 P.M., although hours may change based on business needs and MIT's academic calendar.This is a union position. Employees are covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the MIT Libraries and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 93.
