Summary This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. The incumbent serves as an Audio-Video (AV) Preservation Specialist in the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library. The AV Specialist will perform duties associated with digitizing original archival audio, video, photographic, and moving image records; managing digital surrogates and derivatives; producing physical media copies; preservation development; and providing access to the Library's AV holdings. Responsibilities As a Audio-Video Preservation Specialist, you will: Digitize original, obsolete, and deteriorated archival analog audio, photographic, and moving image records.. Use a wide range of software applications and hardware for digitization, editing, quality control, file storage,and management of digital files, and create preservation and descriptive metadata. Perform repair and triage techniques to treat, clean, stabilize, manipulate, and prepare AV holdings to ensure a safe and transparent playback of the archival carrier, while ensuring that the techniques and processes meet NARA's preservation standards and guidelines Handle complex and time sensitive reference requests about the Library's AV collections from researchers (including media, documentary production companies, and book publishers), other archival staff, and other departments of the Library. Qualifications You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized experience for the GS-9 is one year of experience at the GS-7 level, or equivalent in other public or private sectors, that is directly related to the position and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position must include: Experience in digitizing analog audiovisual materials (examples such as audio tape, video tape, film, and photographs) AND Executing activities geared towards connecting researchers with archival audiovisual holdings (examples may include activities at every point of the archival life cycle: accessioning, processing, description, reference, and digitization). OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: A master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in a related field. OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a related field, OR LL.B. or J.D., in a related field. OR You may qualify on a combination of education and experience. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.
