PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

The Board of Education Grant Writer and Policy Coordinator role is crucial in identifying and coordinating grants to secure funding aligned with the Board of Education's mission. This individual will be responsible for representing the district, crafting and submitting grant applications in accordance with federal, state, and private agency guidelines, assessing feasibility, and ensuring timely submission. The position entails independent work with discretion in the initial stages of planning strategies relevant to the organization's mission.

The incumbent must demonstrate a strong grasp of grant policy recommendations, as well as exceptional interpersonal skills to collaborate with the Board of Education Superintendent, executive team, school principals, and external groups.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate with internal administrators to develop proposal strategies and to gather relevant information, which at times can be confidential, to research, prepare, and submit funding proposals.Maintain primary responsibility for grant schedules and tracking grants.Identify innovative, forward-thinking issues of policy areas relevant to the Board of Education to research; propose new policies for addressing problems or make policy modification recommendations define resource requirements for successful implementation of grants.Take the lead responsibility for overall proposal development and final submissions, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the final proposals and documents.Coordinate and follow up on the progress of submitted proposals;Coordinate with the Business Office to create expenditure and income budgets to accompany proposalsConduct ongoing prospect research to identify and evaluate opportunities aligned with the mission of the Board of Education.Monitor and implement best practices and understanding of grant writing within the Board of EducationBuild relationships with key funders and strategic partners, including state and federal officials, foundation executives, and university officials to increase the Board of Education's financial resources and grant/donor pipeline.Ability to use a variety of federal, state, and foundation online application systems for preparation and submission of grant applications.Maintain accurate and complete records of all activities associated with each grant proposal or other related materials.As directed, prepare status reports, which in general are initially confidential, for the Superintendent, Chief Financial Officer, and Board of Education (Board) regarding grants, partnerships, and prospects.Presentation of grant abstracts (grant approvals) to the Board of Education (Board) Finance and Operations committee for acceptance.EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in public or business administration, or a related field, along with three to five years of experience in grant writing. Ideal candidate will have experience in a Board of Education (BOE) administration, along with BOE grant writing.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Strong independent research skillsThorough knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements for grant submissions and contractual processes.Knowledge of the principles and practices of public administration, as well as operational procedures within government organizations.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with federal, state, and local officials, consultants, contractors, other Board of Education employees, multiple donor sources, and the public.Ability to maintain confidential information and apply discretion when needed.Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication, public speaking, and media skills.Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively, while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.SALARY, BARGAINING UNIT & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is a "General Fund" tested position.

This position covered by the Executive Management & Confidential Employee Policy,

Hires into this class shall not be covered by the City pension but shall continue to be covered by Social Security; additionally, employer will contribute 7.5% of base pay into a defined contribution plan.

Selection Plan
