Summary/Objective

Create moderate to complex machine design models and drawings from rough drawings, sketches or notes provided by engineers. Prepare sketches or complete detail and layout drawings from verbal or written instructions for complex products or equipment. Transforms initial rough product designs using Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools into working documents. Reviews engineering drawing and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards.

Job Responsibilities

Individual contributor working under direction of technical leadership with a wide degree of creativity and self-direction expected.

Understanding of the construction and use of indented Bill of Material (BOM)and their relationship to upper level assembly drawings.

Working knowledge of RF waveguide and waveguide assemblies preferred.

Input CAD models, drawings, and BOMs into SolidWorks Enterprise Product Data Management (SEPDM) system, and other DataPath business systems.

Improve depth of product domain knowledge.

Plan, analyze, design, test and document hardware of moderate complexity under the guidance of an engineer.

Develops mechanical and electro-mechanical products by studying customer requirements, industry and military standards (ANSI, ISO, ASME, IEEE, MIL-STD, etc.); utilizing internal processes and tools, and soliciting vendor information.

Make decisions that may have an impact on cost, schedule, technical performance, and customer satisfaction.

Contribute to engineering estimates on hardware designs.

Utilizes company CAD tools and PDM/PLM software to create and store CAD models, engineering drawings, BOMs, and vendor data sheets.

May collaborate on, and help to write Test Plans, Test Procedures, Test Reports, CDRL/SDRL deliverables, and other technical documentation.

Prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.

Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests from internal and external stakeholders.

Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.

Protects company IP and technical data from unauthorized disclosure; complies with ITAR regulations.

Supports new product proposals as required. Supervisory Responsibility

No direct supervisory responsibility of others. Travel

Occasional travel may be required.

Education and Experience

Technical Associate degree in a related area, and six to eight years of related experience; or in the absence of an Associate degree, eight to ten years of related experience.

Strong mechanical aptitude.

Five or more years of SolidWorks/ EPDM or Creo/Windchill experience. Must have current experience and knowledge of SolidWorks 2015 or newer for weldments, sheet metal and machine parts.

Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).

Demonstrated experience in designing machined and fabricated assemblies, including knowledge of machining practice and fabrication techniques (welding, forming, etc.) for a variety of materials.

Experience with documenting assemblies that contain a mix of electrical and mechanical components

Experience with MBSE/MBD preferred

Extensive experience with sheet metal design and fabrication preferred

Experience with weldments preferred

Experience with SolidWorks or Creo Routing preferred. This includes initial setup.

Experience with Setting up and maintaining SolidWorks tool box or alternates preferred.

Experience with embedded simulation tools preferred. Job Skills an Attributes
