Position Summary:

This position works closely with the Design and Development team to develop fit and functional garments from innovation concepts to production. Working from initial design sketches to prepare detailed technical garment measurement specs and construction specs in PLM for Mens, Womens, Youth and Kids performance and/or lifestyle apparel. The Technical Designer position requires experience with patternmaking and detailed garment construction. He/She conducts fittings on live models and is responsible for communicating fit comments and corrections to offshore vendors and suppliers. The individual is responsible for conducting fit sessions and resolving fit issues while providing insight, feedback and resolution to the design and product development teams.

Essential Functions of this Role:

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Create initial technical specifications including measurement specs and construction details

Recommend best construction applications to Design and Development while keeping the integrity of the design and styling

Spec and analyze garments to determine compliance of spec, construction, and fit intent

Review previous fit comments and current vendor patterns before a fit session ensuring all set requirements have been met

Lead fittings and advise fit comments/tech sketches, resolving any fit and function issues, demonstrating to the design/product development team that the corrections being applied will result in the desired look, fit and function

Create patterns and/or apply necessary corrections to vendor patterns to reflect adjustments reviewed during fittings

Create and maintain blocks for all divisions

Work with Sample Department to create protos or mock-ups when necessary

Communicate with developers on all technical issues, provide technical knowledge on how to correct or achieve a desired fit. Give detailed feedback on vendor samples

Review grading, guarantee proportions are maintained throughout the size range, review with Sr. Tech or Director and make adjustments to the standard grade when necessary for smaller or larger sizes

Schedule appropriate fit models for fittings in each division (Mens, Womens, Youth, Kids)

Capable of embracing a teamwork-oriented environment and collaborating with entire Product Creation and Development teams

Self-starter, capable of multi-tasking, managing projects independently, organized, detail oriented, efficient with workflow while able to meet strict timelines.

Work Environment:

This job operates within the corporate offices

Physical Demands:

Sitting for long periods of time

Significant manual dexterity for keying in data for long periods of time and patternmaking (if needed)

Expected Hours of Work:

Must be available to work occasional off-hours

Must be available during standard business hours

Travel:

Possible International travel for vendor visits, as needed

Required Education, Experience and Skills:

Minimum AA Degree in related field of study, or equivalent functional experience.

3-5+ years Technical Design/Patternmaking experience required

Must possess strong computer pattern making and grading skills

Experience using Illustrator (or similar program) to create tech sketches

A working knowledge of sewing and bonding construction

Ability to adapt to multiple product categories including Mens, Womens, Youth and Kids Performance Gear, Sportswear, Outerwear, Womens Swim.

Critical eye for proportion and style and confidence in giving direction in fittings

Must have excellent time management and organizational skills

Pay great attention to detail and be a team player

Maintain Department goals and objectives (Blocks, standard specs, construction specs, etc.)

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Experience with Gerber Silhouette 2000 PDS

PLM or equivalent system for tracking garment development

Pay Range:

$64,500.00 - $96,700.00

The actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on variables including experience, geographic location, education, and skills/achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
