Designer, RTW Derek Lam 10 Crosby (4-7 years experience)SHARED RESPONSIBILITIESContribute in all aspects & stages of the design process under guidance of the Design Director. Participate in seasonal concept research, vintage sourcing, garment construction, finishing techniques, fabric treatments, and proposed drapes.Research current trends in designer and contemporary markets and anticipate future trends.Partner with Design Director to sketch and spec for the main collection and updates to the essential collection, based on a comprehensive understanding of the merchandising plans. Expected to contribute the most original ideas and designs to each collection. Responsible for interpreting the seasonal direction into innovative and commercial designs. Analyzes past best and worst sellers for future developments.Responsible in researching, sketching into Dresses, Pants, Tops, and Cut & Sew.Attend and participate in proto and sms fittings, collaborate with Associate Designer to administer sketch/flat updates after fittings.Work with product development, technical design, pattern makers and sample makers to ensure styles are correct to design specifications. Which includes passing specs and working with the in-house patternmaker on drapes.Assist in lookbook fittings, styling and all preparation for the seasonal shoots. This includes lookbook shoots, Joor shoots and editorial shoots.INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITIESResponsible for sourcing and developing seasonal trim with our factories and suppliers. Create detailed diagrams for new developments.Attending print appointments with Design Director. Responsible for recoloring prints, managing print work, print deadlines, and working with the associate designer on prints, stripe layouts, and choosing Pantones for prints/artworks.Sit in on production fittings when requested by the Design Director.Responsible for working with licensees to execute bi-annual retail exclusives and any other exclusive special projectsAttend print appointments with the Design Director. Manage the print process, re-color prints, collaborate and mentor Associate Designer through print process to ensure all artworks meet final deadlines.Requirements & Skills:Submit portfolio and Illustrator flats; examples of workBachelor's Degree in Fashion/Apparel DesignAt least 4-7 year of true design experience in Fashion a contemporary fashion brandHighly Experienced with Adobe SuiteAbility to create detailed sketches in Illustrator, detail drawings, spec garments, create artworksComprehensive understanding of specs, fit and construction; Experience with measuring garmentsPossesses knowledge in cut & sew, wovens & knitwear designAbility to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, possessing excellent time management skillsAcute attention to detail. Must be very organized and diligentQuick learner, takes direction well and understands urgency
