The following information aims to provide potential candidates with a better understanding of the requirements for this role.Position Description: Director of Music Ministries (DMM)

The DMM is responsible for overall planning, implementation and growth of a diverse and dynamic worship and music ministry, covering all aspects of worship.

Specifically:

Collaborate with Pastor and staff in worship planning and liturgical changes throughout the year.

Conduct weekly rehearsals (from September – May) for the adult choir and lead special choir pieces with an expanded choir at least 2-3 times a year.

Recruit volunteer musicians of all ages, especially children and youth, and invite them to join St. Peter’s music program.

Attend regular staff meetings (Zoom or in-person).

Meet with the Worship and Music Committee at least twice a year, or as needed for feedback, short and long-term planning ideas and budget management.

Incorporate both traditional and contemporary music into the worship services. Foster the involvement of instrumental or vocal arrangements by our musicians and local artists.

Select and provide organ/piano music for all Sunday morning services and other seasonal services of the church such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Wednesdays in Lent, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

Provide organ music for weddings and funerals held at the church, consulting with wedding couples or families if requested. For these services the organist will receive an additional fee for the ceremony and rehearsal, if requested, as specified in the church policy. The services of another organist may be used with the permission of the regular organist.

Oversee the maintenance of the music library and key church instruments, which includes the 1903 Durner tracker organ, newly purchased (3/24) Yamaha C6X Baby Grand Piano in sanctuary, piano in Fellowship Hall, electronic keyboard, and percussion instruments in the music office.

Be Zoom and Tech savvy (ability to record live music and upload to Vimeo or Google Drive).

Maintain professional competency by practicing, performing and attending continued education sessions. Membership in organizations such as American Guild of Organists, Choristers Guild, ALCM, etc. is highly recommended.

Education and Skill Requirements

Minimum requirement: bachelor’s degree in music; Master of Music preferred.

Experience in liturgical worship and open to new and changing styles.

Demonstrates flexibility in working with others.
