We are currently looking for a Senior Editor to join the Physical Sciences and Engineering division on PLOS ONE on a permanent contract.As a Senior Editor, you will work with other staff editors, members of the editorial board and other teams at PLOS to oversee the editorial process for submissions to PLOS ONE. There will also be opportunities to work on other journals within the PLOS portfolio. The role involves a wide array of editorial responsibilities, from community engagement, development of editorial policies and assessment of submitted manuscripts for the suitability for publication in the journal.ResponsibilitiesAssess submissions, guide manuscripts through the review process, make decisions based on reviewers’ comments.Oversee editorial decisions and provide support to the editorial board and third-party editorial teams.Develop and coordinate activities to improve the visibility of the journal within subject areas covered by the Physical Sciences and Engineering team.Present at scientific meetings, representing PLOS.Build relationships with members of the academic community, coordinating section editor recruitment, events for academic editors, and site visits.Train and assist junior members of the team in editorial tasks.Oversee and complete editorial projects.Set an example to other team members by demonstrating a positive, constructive attitude to change and a growth mindset.Qualifications, skills, and experienceExperience in a research environment, publishing or other relevant industry setting in subject areas covered by the Physical Sciences and Engineering team. We especially welcome candidates with expertise in Computer Science, Mathematics and Engineering).Prior experience in an editorial position, with demonstrated ability to fulfill the responsibilities outlined above.Experience of evaluating peer review reports and ensuring that peer review is conducted in accordance with journal and COPE guidelines.A postgraduate degree in a relevant subject area.Highly organized and efficient, with strong critical assessment and problem-solving abilities.Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral.Applicants should be able to adapt to fast-paced environments and show a proven interest in editorial matters and the scholarly literature.The base salary range we’ve established for this position is

(UK) £42,000 - £57,000 (US) $75,000 - $100,000.

The final salary will depend on several factors, including the candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, education, and other qualifications; the region in which the candidate resides, and internal pay equity with current PLOS employees in similar jobs.
