The following information provides an overview of the skills, qualities, and qualifications needed for this role.Our highly prestigious mid-size full-service law firm client with offices in Chicago and Newport Beach, CA is hiring an experienced Communications Specialist in their Chicago office. This role primarily focuses on transforming complex legal content into compelling, digestible communications for external audiences and creating business development-driven communications for internal audiences. This role covers the full spectrum of project development, from ideation and strategy to writing and editing, to execution and delivery.The ideal candidate is an idea generator who truly loves to write. Projects include client alerts, articles and interview responses, case studies, award submissions, press releases, internal communications, and more. We are looking for a team player with a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality who thrives in a collaborative environment. High levels of organization and attention to detail are must-haves. The Communications Specialist reports to the Director of Marketing. This position is eligible for a flexible hybrid schedule that includes both remote work and in-office work. Lead marketing communications efforts at the firm, practice, and attorney levels.Write and edit press releases, social media posts, e-communications, etc. that focus on the matters, deals, and cases our attorneys handle for our clients.Create and maintain marketing content, including practice and industry group descriptions, client success stories, and representative experience.Work alongside attorneys to strategize, write and edit, and distribute legal articles and other thought leadership pieces.Lead award submissions for Chambers and Partners, Legal 500, Crain’s Chicago Business, Orange County Business Journal, Best Lawyers in America, etc.Create internal communications that help attorneys cross-sell legal services and better understand our client roster and capabilities.Track data analytics for marketing platforms, including the website, social media channels, e-communications platform, and intranet.REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism, communications, marketing, or similar field.3+ years of experience in a legal or other professional services setting strongly preferred.Strong writing and editing skills, including a mastery of AP Style.Excellent interpersonal skills and polished presentation, serving as an effective representation of the firm with media, vendors, peers, and consultants as well as clients, prospects, and community partners.Out-of-the-box thinking and willingness to try new approaches, keeping an eye on trends and best practices in law firm communications.Ability to be a self-starter who successfully leads projects with minimal supervision, including ideation, planning, execution, monitoring, and completion.Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Familiarity with content management systems, email marketing platforms, and social media platforms.Familiarity with contact and experience databases.Familiarity with document management systems.Familiarity with Google Analytics and data reporting.Writing assessment and samples required.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The following will also be required of the successful candidate:Excellent writing skills.Strong organizational skills.Strong attention to detail.Good judgment.Strong interpersonal communication skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Able to work harmoniously and effectively with others.A self-starter who desires to show ownership and commitment to the job.Able to preserve confidentiality and exercise discretion.
