Position DescriptionRAND has an exciting opportunity for a talented Graphic Production Artist to join our Design & Multimedia group within the Communications and External Affairs department. The Design & Multimedia group creates print, digital, and multimedia products that help make RAND research and people more accessible to a broad audience through storytelling and design.In this role, you will be contributing to RAND's mission of improving policy and decision-making through research and analysis by creating charts, graphics, and data visualizations for research reports and summaries. Additionally, you will create book covers, presentations, stationery, event materials, and outreach products. The ideal candidate will thrive on producing effective visuals that convey findings with the potential to make an impact in the public policy space.Duties include but are not limited to:Transform highly technical information provided in various formats (e.g., data-based spreadsheets, rough sketches, maps, etc.) into digestible, consistent, and on-brand visuals.Collaborate with clients to determine objectives; develop interpretive and illustrative themes and concepts to convey ideas and information.Format charts, illustrations, and presentations for brand compliance, accessibility, and usability; define and incorporate appropriate colors, fonts, and icons to convey clear, concise messaging.Search stock imagery for photos and illustrations relevant to reports and publications.Create and refine presentation slide decks in Microsoft PowerPoint.Produce event materials such as name tags and table tents using Avery and Adobe InDesign templates.Preflight and finalize files for print production and digital publication.Work closely with design manager, editors, project managers, design colleagues, and printers to ensure quality and ensure completed projects are maintained in alignment with established practices and processes.QualificationsThe successful candidate is required to possess the following:Minimum 3 years of experience working on figure art and graphics production.Proficiency in Mac-based, industry-standard software programs including Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator), Microsoft Office, and Acrobat.Demonstrated experience with plotting data charts in Excel and formatting in Illustrator using template styles and presets.Proven track records of creating professional presentations and event collateral.Knowledge of all steps required for the print process and an understanding of production methods to ensure designs can be produced for print delivery.Demonstrated ability to work quickly with tight deadlines while maintaining an excellent attention to detail.Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of 508 compliance and accessibility standards.Intermediate level capabilities in image correction using Adobe Photoshop.Knowledge of tracing maps and images in Illustrator.Knowledge of digital design tools like Figma and Datawrapper.Familiarity with R and ArcGIS.Familiarity with Windows platform.EducationBA/BS degree is required.Security ClearanceThe ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance and DHS Fitness is required. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.LocationThis position will be located at one of the following RAND offices: Arlington, Va.; or Santa Monica, Calif. This position is eligible for RAND's hybrid work environment, which enables a blend of on-site and remote work. Some on-site presence will be required to meet business needs, including on an ad-hoc basis; on-site needs will vary from week to week.Work SampleThis position requires applicants to submit a portfolio of work that demonstrates production art skills and design experience as well as their creation skills in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Adobe Illustrator.Salary Range:

$62,700 - $91,500RAND considers a variety of factors when formulating an offer, including, but not limited to, the specific role and associated responsibilities; a candidate's work experience, education/training, skills, and expertise; and internal equity.
