You could be just the right applicant for this job Read all associated information and make sure to apply.Archives and Digital Publishing SpecialistINFORMATIONJob Class: TechnicianDepartment: CommunicationsLocation of Work: Juneau, AKSalary Grade(s): G 8/9Hours of Work: M-F, 8:00 am - 4:30 pmEmployment Category: Regular, Full-TimePURPOSEThe Archives and Digital Publishing Specialist will support the Communications department's digitization initiatives to establish, preserve and maintain the Tribe's historically significant collections of photographs, video and audio recordings, and publications. This position will be responsible for developing the Tribe's digital archival of assets, establishing new digital preservation workflows and maintaining best practices. The Digital Archives and Publishing Specialist will assist with the research, project management and production aspects of digitalization projects including digitalization, post-processing, quality assurance, and digital asset management for the Tribe's archives and will provide support for digital and publishing projects.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSCollect, organize and describe archival collections and prepare material for large scale digitization.Support publishing projects, including books, journals, digital artifacts, digital collections, websites, open educational resources, multimedia, and other public facing content.Perform digital imaging production work for digitization such as hands-on digitization, post-processing, quality control and digital asset management. Enters appropriate indexing data into imaging software and indexes all documents according to department standards, as needed. Produces appropriate shades and best resolution in scanned reproductions, as appropriate.Coordinate work-flow processes for digitization projects involving original materials such as photographs, film audio recordings or other kinds of original materials.Participate in development and documentation of internal operating policies and procedures.Serve as technical resource for various digital imaging work such as digitization of still materials, processing imaged documents or items, administrative applications, and/or other imaging systems or scanning software.Research, assess and recommend new technologies related to specialized equipment purchases and hardware installations and modifications as necessary.Capture, create and edit descriptive, technical, administrative, and preservation metadata.Ensure all cataloged content meets standard style, grammar, and titling requirements. Assist in re-naming of all files to adhere to ISO standards for dates (eg- YYYY-MM-DD).Identify raw digital camera file format and codecs and analog tape assets and prepare data, tapes, and files for digital preservation and digitization partners.Quality-check all video files delivered to/received from digitization partner, perform checksums, virus scans, assist in preparing files for digitization.Assist in the creation of a database matrix to capture file name schema and metadata, and track delivery dates. Maintain day-to-day records of digital preservation projects and maintenance.Assist in cataloging interviews and editing record metadata.Assist with hierarchical storage management procedures and policies.Assist in file re-organization of physical tapes and other assets.Edit and apply watermarks to interview footage in Adobe Premiere, edit files, and update project files as needed.Perform other duties as required or assigned.Preserve materials in a digital format for long-term storage and preservation.Organize records using a process that involves cataloging them and preparing them for public access.Write descriptions of the preserved records.Manage digital assets, prepare assets for digitization, create and edit descri tive, technical, and preservation metadata, enter and edit data, assist with ongoing preservation work, perform checksums on digital video source material and files, and create additional content as needed.DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITYSpending Authority: NoneOther Authority: NoneNECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGEKnowledge of digital file formats and video formats.Ability to multitask while sustaining high level of accuracy.Must be adept at working on a PC platform.Strong relationship management skills.Demonstrable knowledge of digital video file formats and codecs.Strong familiarity with metadata schema, best standards, and practices.Detail-oriented with strong attention to accuracy.Experience editing in Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop.Must possess the organizational skills required to manage large amounts of data.Must possess analytical and research abilities needed to determine which records are worthy of preservation.Strong familiarity with digital asset collection assessmentStrong familiarity with large-scale audio, video and photo preservation effortsExperience with or studies in Digital Video ArchivesExperience using typical metadata and archival descriptive standardsKnowledge of best practices and archival theoryHigh School Diploma4 years of related experience with progressive responsibility working with digitized and born-digital archival materials.BA in Library and Information Science or in an equivalent/related field1 year of related experience with progressive responsibility working with digitized and born-digital archival materialsUNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONSThe majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs.
