Overview:

Radio Free Asia (RFA) is a private, Washington, DC-based, nonprofit corporation that provides accurate and timely news and information to Asian countries whose governments prohibit access to a free press. We are seeking a creative, highly skilled UI/UX Product Designer.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams of editors, news designers, product managers, and digital developers to envision the ecosystem in which RFA journalism lives. You will bring a strong understanding of the latest design trends and tools, plus insights gleaned from user research and testing, to collaborate on a cohesive product vision and create an RFA design system.This is a 12-month assignment position, with the possibility of transition into a full-time permanent role after the term ends.Responsibilities:

Conduct user research to understand the needs and behaviors of the newsroom’s digital audience on owned platforms.Analyze feedback from users to make recommendations for design improvements.Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs for digital products.Collaborate with the product manager and development team to ensure design feasibility and implementation.Lead user testing initiatives to gather feedback on design prototypes.Analyze testing data to refine designs and enhance user satisfaction.In collaboration with the creative team, maintain and evolve design systems and standards to ensure consistency across owned digital products.Collaborate with language service teams to customize and implement designs that are authentic to cultural experiences and expectations.Ensure that designs adhere to accessibility and inclusivity standards.Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years experience as a UI/UX designer. At least 2 years working within a news organization or similar media outlet.A strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in creating user-centric designs for mobile and desktop platforms.Ability to create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups.Very strong written and verbal communication skills; experience bringing clarity to insights for stakeholders of all seniority levels.Demonstrated experience with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, and InVision.Experience with user research methods, including interviews, usability testing, and surveys.Understanding of front-end development technologies and their impact on design.Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices.Ability to collaborate across departments in a multilingual newsroom and with teams across multiple time zones.Application Instruction:
