Two (2) years of full-time professional experience working in journalism, communications, marketing or public relations (student experience may be considered).Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, English or a related field. Additional years (3+) of full-time professional experience working in communications, marketing or public relations (student experience may be considered). Experience in creating and managing content for media relations, website, social media. Ability to modify for varied media and target audiences. Experience with effective graphic design, branding principles and/or marketing. Experience using Adobe Cloud (InDesign). Photography/video experience. Web administration experience using Omni CMS. Experience with magazine and newsletter publications. Experience working with email marketing tools such as Mailchimp. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, namely InDesign. Photography and basic video development/editing skills.Brief Description of Duties:The marketing and communications coordinator is an integral role within the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Reporting to the Strategic Communications Manager, this position will provide support for all aspects of marketing and communications efforts for the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences with the goal of advancing the College’s visibility and emphasizing its educational and research goals to a variety of audiences.The incumbent must possess:Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff.Creative self-starter who is highly organized and can work independently.Experience working with a high degree of professionalism, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and good judgment.Experience working with and maintaining confidential information and handling sensitive communication with discretion.Experience successfully working independently and as part of a team.Motivated, self-starter with high energy and passion for the mission of the College.Duties:Content Creation:

Research and write content to support communications and marketing efforts for Stony Brook University, departments, and programs of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. This includes content for websites, newsletters, feature stories, profiles, flyers, event programs, social media posts and video assets. Serve as a marketing and communications resource to the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, providing expertise and guidance regarding brand guidelines and content creation.

Website Maintenance:

Maintain college websites for CEAS and assist other departments with their sites. This involves searching for relevant graphics and photos and designing pages.

Events:

Attend events as CEAS Communication representative to cover stories, take photos, and create video content. Promote College of Engineering and Applied Sciences’ events; develop and maintain a content calendar for use across multiple platforms including web and social media. Also assist in the promotion of various outreach efforts.

Strategic Planning:

Assist Strategic Communications Manager in implementing marketing/communications strategy designed to further goals of the College and the University including the outreach program. Assist in writing marketing plans for departments and programs. Assist advancement team with their targeted communication needs.

Liaison with College of Engineering and Applied Sciences departments:

Manage Dean’s office communications inbox. Liaison with CEAS departments and appropriate University offices (e.g. Media Relations, Advancement, etc), Dean’s Senior staff, Department faculty and staff. Write general correspondence such as congratulatory notes to students.

Student supervision:

Oversee student communication interns, assign tasks and manage deadlines.

Other duties or projects as assigned appropriate to rank and departmental mission.Special Notes:This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.For this position, we are unable to sponsor candidates for work visas.In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
