Job SummaryThis is an offer of temporary internship employment in conjunction withUniversity of Southern Maine.The Westin Portland Harborview is agreeing to provide A one-time, paid 150 hour internsip in the areas of Sales, Marketing, and Banquets. It is expected for the intern to complete 5 to 10 hours on a weekly basis. The agreement is only valid for the duration of the 2024 Fall semester for the University of Southern Maine, and will expire up on completion of the 150 hours. If wish to continue your employment with Westin Portland Harborview thereafter, a formal application and interview process must be completed.ResponsibilitiesQUALIFICATIONS:+ High School diploma and at least one year of experience as a coordinator.+ Resourceful; able to think outside the box+ Confident+ Excellent telephone good interpersonal and organizational skills.+ High energy motivated and dependable+ Excellent communication skills both verbally and written+ Average to above-average knowledge of all Microsoft software programs particularly Excel+ Quick learner with good initiative and follow-through skills+ Able to work independently to meet deadlines+ Detail oriented+ Good computer skills+ Good eye for online designINTERNSHIP OBJECTIVESSales:+ Event Planning and Coordination : How to plan and coordinate various types of events.+ Vendor Relations: Building and maintaining relationships with vendors such asflorists, entertainers, and decorators.+ Customer Relationship Management: How to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and customers. Understanding customer needs andpreferences to tailor services accordingly.+ Sales Techniques: Effective sales techniques and strategies to attract and retain clients. Techniques for up-selling and cross-selling hotel services and amenities.+ Negotiation Skills: Negotiating contracts and rates with clients to secure bookings. Finding win-win solutions that satisfy both the hotel and the client.+ Product Knowledge: Gaining in-depth knowledge of the hotel's services, facilities, and unique selling points. Understanding the competitive advantages of the hotel.+ Revenue Management: Understanding pricing strategies and revenue management principles. Maximizing revenue through strategic pricing and inventory management.+ Market Analysis:Analyzing market trends and competitor activities to stay ahead. Identifying target markets and potential business opportunities.Banquets:+ Menu Planning: Designing and customizing menus to suit the theme andpreferences of the event.+ Logistics and Setup: Planning the layout and setup of the event space, including seating arrangements, stage setup, and decor.+ Guest Relations: Managing guest lists, RSVPs, and seating arrangements.+ Communication Skills: Developing strong verbal and written communication skills tointeract with clients and colleagues.RESPONSIBILITIES:+ Approaches all encounters with guests and associates in an attentive friendly courteous and service-oriented manner+ Maintains regular attendance in compliance with Aimbridge Hospitality standards as required by scheduling which will vary according to the needs of the hotel+ Internship hours may require attendance on weekends and Holidays dependant upon business demands+ Maintain a high standard of personal appearance and grooming which include compliance with the Aimbridge Hospitality dress code and wearing name tag when working (per brand standards)+ Complies at all times with Aimbridge Hospitality standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations+ Demonstrates awareness of established goals for each department and the role played in Sales process to achieve and/or exceed these goals+ Assists managers on creative projects including proposals, direct mail pieces, invitations, special events, etc+ Maintains timely and effective paper flow and communication within department and to other departments+ Works with Sales leadership to detail upcoming functions as needed+ Distributes BEOs+ Assists guests and clients with small changes requests etc. and completes needed paperwork for Manager+ Assit with in-house deliveries, amenities, welcome letters, transportation schedules, etc. as needed+ Participates in branding discussions and monitors brand cohesiveness through all marketing materials+ Develops marketing collateral and messaging+ Attends Sales Meetings+ Others items as they relate to the Sales and Marketing effort of the hotel as well as any other items as needed by entire management staff+ Any other duties as assigned by DOS specific to respective property.Property DetailsThe Westin Portland Harborview provides travelers a perfect vantage point to explore Maine's largest city.
