You will work with a team of scientists and product managers to design customer-facing products, and you will work with technology teams to productize and maintain the associated solutions.We are looking for an outstanding Senior Applied Scientist to join our interdisciplinary team of Data Scientists, Applied Scientists, Economists, Data Engineers and Software Engineers. The ideal candidate combines machine learning expertise with the ability to deploy algorithms into production. You have deep knowledge in one of: recommender systems, deep learning, time series forecasting and/or reinforcement learning and experience applying them to Amazon-scale data. You understand tradeoffs between business needs and model complexity, and you take calculated risks in developing rapid prototypes and iterative model improvements. You are excited to learn from and alongside seasoned scientists, engineers, and business leaders. You are an excellent communicator and effectively translate technical findings into production systems and business action (and customer delight).Key job responsibilitiesAs a Senior Applied Scientist on this team, you will:- Be the technical leader in machine learning; lead efforts within this team and across other teams.- Perform hands-on analysis and modeling of enormous data sets to develop insights that increase customer engagement and monetization.- Drive end-to-end machine learning projects that have a high degree of ambiguity, scale, complexity.- Build machine learning models, perform proof-of-concept, experiment, optimize, and deploy your models into production; work closely with product managers and engineers to assist in productionizing your models.- Run experiments, gather data, and perform statistical analysis.- Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large-scale data analysis, machine-learning model development, model validation and serving.- Research new and innovative machine learning approaches.- Recruit scientists to the team and provide mentorship.- Share knowledge and research outcomes via internal and external conferences and journal publicationsBasic Qualifications- 5+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience- PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning- Experience with large scale machine learning systems such as profiling and debugging and understanding of system performance and scalabilityPreferred Qualifications- Experience with popular deep learning frameworks such as MxNet and Tensor Flow.- Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
