This position assists with the daily operations of the library. Acts as an assistant to the supervisor. Provides customer service to patrons by developing and delivering age-appropriate programs and readers' advisory. Promotes the general use of facilities and assists patrons in the use of collection and computers.The Norfolk Public Library offers equal opportunity access to information, high quality book and multimedia materials, programs, exhibits, online resources, and technology to meet the needs of our diverse community for life-long learning, cultural enrichment, and intellectual stimulation.Department Hiring Salary: $41,503.00Essential FunctionsEssential functions include but are not limited to:+ Conducts Early Literacy programs such as: Babygarten, KinderSTEM, Storytime.+ Plans and promotes programs for youth and families.+ NPL Outreach to schools, daycares and other local organizations+ Maintains and monitors KidZone and program room in the library branch+ Provides excellent customer service; assists library patrons with reader’s advisory+ Assists in building and maintaining the library’s juvenile and YA collections+ Inventories Storytime kits, Summer Reading Program materials and other materials as assigned+ Conducts tours of the library including school tours and field trips+ Provides regular coverage of Public Service desks+ Provides technology assistance to the public with computers, copier, and scanner.+ Prepares book displays+ Performs administrative duties by preparing and analyzing statistical reports+ Participates in committees and attends training related to the job+ Supervises part-time employees and volunteers when branch manager is unavailable.+ Supervises youth volunteers+ Promotes the concept of the Family Place Library in Norfolk+ Proficient in Microsoft Office products and electronic library applications such as Libby and Hoopla.+ Ability to lead and work in a team setting+ Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing+ Supervises and trains youth volunteers and NEL interns+ Ability to prioritize tasks+ Attends the National Family Place Training InstituteEducation/ExperienceWork requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field.
