Duties

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), Office of the Director in Washington, DC.

At the full performance level (GS-13), the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:Evaluates the content, format, and organization of documents submitted by staff to the Director, Deputy Director, or other senior officials in the Department. Edits/writes/rewrites portions of documents.Typical work assignments involve obtaining, analyzing and selecting pertinent information; determining the most logical and effective sequence of the narrative; determining the overall length and tone based on the objectives, the medium, and the audience; and writing the material. Prepares pre-briefing material for the senior leaders.Develops and maintains the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) Correspondence Manual and other correspondence guides and training material.Identifies and helps resolve misunderstandings or conflicts between offices concerning correspondence, reports, memoranda, briefing papers, etc. for the Director, Deputy Director, and other senior officials in the Bureau as appropriate.Creates and reviews correspondence records and packages in an automated control system, assigning correspondence to action offices, including pertinent background information as necessary, and monitoring and updating correspondence activity.Keeps abreast of Secretarial, Departmental, and Bureau activities and policies to assure files and procedures conform with established policy. BSEE has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.Salary InformationGS-13:

($117,962 - $153,354) per annum.

First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level.

GS-13 , you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the

grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience:Communicating clearly, succinctly, directly, to achieve correspondence goals and objectives.Establishing and maintaining organizational relationships for the purpose of gathering information.Managing competing deadlines in an efficient and effective manner.Applying appropriate protocols, policies, and procedures throughout the lifecycle of projects.Applying organizational style guidelines to the process of writing, reviewing, and editing of correspondence products;Implementing organizational correspondence control, tracking, and management protocols, procedures, and practices associated with a correspondence control system.
