You can get further details about the nature of this opening, and what is expected from applicants, by reading the below.The Marin County Free Library (MCFL) is a special taxing district that operates ten branch libraries in Marin under the authority of the Board of Supervisors. It provides public library services to the residents of the unincorporated areas of the County and the cities of Corte Madera, Fairfax, and Novato.The Marin County Free Library seeks a strategic thinker to lead the development and implementation of a communications plan to support our new 5-year strategic plan. This position will work to reintroduce the library to our communities through tailored communication initiatives that prioritize accessibility in various languages and formats. The Media Manager will be responsible for:Proactively creating content and developing a collection of visual and written materials, including an annual social media plan.Developing outreach and communication strategies for the department to ensure effective and timely messaging to the community and partner agencies.Ensuring branding is consistent with the library’s philosophy and standards.Serving as the initial point of contact for members of the media, and representing the library at community events and meetings.Developing methods for soliciting public input, feedback and support on key initiatives and issues.Drafting communications around important department and branch events for patrons and the press.Supervising and evaluating the performance of assigned county staff and contractor(s) (currently two full-time staff and one contractor).Overseeing and monitoring the media budget for the department.Our Highly Qualified Candidate

The ideal candidate possesses the following:Experience developing comprehensive communications strategies and creating content across a range of platforms.Ability to understand the goals and strategy of a large organization and translate that into compelling messages that connect with all members of the community, particularly those that have been historically underserved.Experience working collaboratively with Marin County’s communities and community-based organizations.Project management experience.Experience supervising staff.Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly desirable.In addition, the ideal candidate has a deep understanding of and commitment to advancing racial equity. They have strong staff leadership, coaching and team building skills and are an expert communicator. They will be adept at managing multiple projects and delivering on deadlines while adjusting to shifting priorities when needed.QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:Management principles and practices, including goal setting; budget development, employee development; program development, implementation, and evaluation; and the supervision of employees.Principles, methods, and practices applied in the design and implementation of communication and outreach programs.Techniques and methods used in composing and preparing correspondence, memoranda, newsletters, reports, and similar materials.Desk-top publishing, web content design and development, and basic graphics preparation/presentation applications and equipment.Video/photography and the operation of camera equipment.Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications related to work.English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation.Ability to:

Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards.Manage programs and staff.Translate unit goals, objectives, and policies into day-to-day operations.Develop effective work teams and motivate individuals to meet goals and objectives and provide services in the most effective and efficient manner.Plan, research, organize, coordinate, and implement a variety of communications, marketing, media relations, and community outreach activities and programs.Identify and implement effective course of action to complete assigned work.Develop effective communications and marketing, media relations, and community outreach strategies and campaigns.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, to a wide variety of audiences.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and abilities listed. Typically, this would be the equivalent to graduation with a Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations or a closely related field and three years of progressively responsible experience in media-related activities, including one year in a lead capacity. Additional professional experience in media activities may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.Bilingual Certification:

Bilingual proficiency is desired, but not required. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in Spanish to be eligible for bilingual pay.
