Rochester Optical was established in Rochester, New York in 1932. At the time, the owner saw a growing need for protective tactical eyewear for the Armed Forces, aircraft pilots, and police officers. Later, Rochester Optical became one of the country's few military prescription glasses frame manufacturers and supplied the Army and the Air Force with combat-ready ballistic eyewear for soldiers. After WWII, the tactical eyewear company expanded its services to include creating and selling prescription eyeglasses for the public. Rochester Optical quickly became one of the best glass frames and prescription eyeglass manufacturers in the area, producing many popular glass frame styles of the time with polarized tints.Since then, Rochester Optical has added a large, full-functioning optical lab, a wholesale business line, and a stock lens facility and created wearable device solutions using augmented reality technology.Rochester Optical is poised to be an optical leader and innovator in the eyewear space. Our headquarters are located in Rochester, NY, and we continue to expand our national and international reach.Position Summary: The Creative Designer provides professional product design and production solutions.Essential Job Functions:+ Manages new product design and development.+ Responsible for the creation and management of Industrial design, mechanical engineering, model making, rapid prototyping, production and manufacturing engineering, tool design, procurement, cost analysis, package design, branding, retail display design and manufacturing, sales and marketing collateral creation, 3D Renderings, technical illustration, technical writing, video editing, and production.+ Manages the design and development of new parts, configurations, and existing or new mechanical components and assemblies.+ Analyzes product specifications and performance requirements to determine design form factors, design trade studies, and product modifications produced and implemented by internal and external manufacturing or processing facilities.+ Designs, modifies, and maintains mechanical portions of existing and future products using SolidWorks parts and assemblies for manufacturability and cost objectives.+ Manages existing and new supply chains and works with manufacturing, optical, and mechanical engineering to develop robust product designs and improve existing product lines.+ Designs, assembles and tests prototypes.+ Manages the design of production tooling and assigns manufacturing engineering in transitioning to production as well as ongoing production support.Skills & Abilities:+ Industrial design, mechanical engineering, model making, rapid prototyping, production and manufacturing engineering, tool design, procurement, cost analysis, package design, branding, retail display design, manufacturing, sales and marketing collateral creation, 3D Renderings, technical illustration, technical writing, video editing, and production.+ Through knowledge and understanding of design, engineering processes, and manufacturing procedures as they apply to the optical industry, 3D printing, and laser cutting.+ Great presentation skills+ Thorough understanding of project management+ Able to manage, lead, work, and communicate effectively with other engineers, designers, marketers, and suppliers to develop products from concept through commercialization in a cross-functional team+ Strong problem-solving and analytical skills+ Effective oral and written communication and presentation skills+ Must be able to handle multiple tasks/projects and manage project closureEducation & Experience:+ Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or other related field of experience.+ 15 years’ experience in Research and Development position+ SolidWorks, 3DS Max, Adobe suite, CorelDraw, Microsoft suite, Final Cut ProCompensation and Benefits:Compensation is commensurate with experience.
