Summary Description:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications and Marketing and the Senior Director of Institutional Advancement, the Senior Manager of Communications and Marketing serves as the lead writer and content developer for advocacy, fundraising, membership and other organizational content.

Essential Duties:Writes and edits Communications and Advancement content, including newsletters, fundraising and dues appeals (both print and digital), website content, press releases, pitches, talking points and other content as neededEdits organizational content, including grant proposals and other content authored by AAUW staffEnsures products are consistent with AAUW branding, messaging, positioning, tone, and voice; incumbent is able to write and produce products for different target audiences and purposesSupports executive communication needs, including speechwriting, talking points, op-eds, and other contentEnsures quality control of written materials, ensuring high-quality standards for all AAUW materialsMaintains style standards and guide for AAUW within the Communications departmentWorks with vendors and consultants as needed, including for print production processesAdvises the Senior Directors on yearly content strategyServes as a trusted partner throughout AAUW to coordinate messaging and bring together content across the organizationProvides backup support for media relations and outreach as neededOther duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or English preferred; minimum 6 years' experience with strategic communications and/or writingStrong writing and editing skills requiredStrong interpersonal communications skills requiredUnderstanding of how to write and position documents to advance goals and objectives and to engage different audiencesCrisp and compelling writing style and strong ability to distill complex issues into compelling stories, and effective message developmentProven track record in writing and developing effective donor and fundraising appeals and materials (online and print)Ability to take initiative, prioritize and manage multiple projects, including editing and quality-check processesStrong attention to detail and deadlinesAble to accept and give constructive feedbackAbility to work independently and collaboratively as part of a teamExperience creating and maintaining online content in WordPress or other content management systems a plusClear understanding and commitment to AAUW mission, goals, and objectives, and ability to ensure communications activities work to advance those needs

Compensation and Location

The salary range for this position is $86,000 to $100,000 (commensurate with experience) and it is offered along with a competitive benefits package, which can be found at https://www.aauw.org/about/careers/. The position is based in Washington, DC.

AAUW is a non-profit organization whose headquarters and staff are based in Washington, D.C. This is an in-office position with the option of working remotely up to three days per week. In keeping with AAUW's commitment to a safe working environment, AAUW will required selected candidates to submit proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 prior to extending a job offer.
