General Statement:

The Fleet’s Graphic Design Team provides full design and creative services to multiple departments including Exhibits, Marketing, Education, Development and Visitor Services. The team delivers a variety of digital and print print media including exhibit text, signage, brochures, newsletters, and web content.

The designers handle the full production process from design to printing and installation for in house projects.

The Graphic Designer II supports the Fleet Science Center mission and visitor experience philosophy by interpreting internal clients needs and designing solutions with high visual impact that meet the project objectives. Working with the Graphic Design Team Lead, the Graphic Designer II creates ideas and concepts and delivers on a variety of products, analog and electronic signage, exhibit fabrication, displays, advertising, logo designs and digital designs through collaboration with the Brand Marketing Team and others in the organization. The Graphic Designer II’s knowledge of all uses of copy and graphics is used to maintain and promote Fleet branding.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Translate and develop high-quality design within an established brand identity.

Collaborate with multiple internal departments to develop a wide range of communication materials, such as web pages, flyers, presentations, signage, posters, wayfinding and other collaterals for interal and external use.

Manage print, digital and exhibit design projects, including defining budgets, planning the design concept, determining print materials and production options, coordinating with vendors, presenting designs to the client, making revisions based on client feedback and meeting the project timeline.

Assist the Design Team Lead with managing the team’s production workflow.

Manage the design and uploading process for all project files and materials using best practices.

Present design strategy, concepts and production options with key stakeholders in a professional and collaborative discussion. Incorporate feedback and revise concepts to align marketing strategy, design strategy and key stakeholder needs.

Meet multiple deadlines while ensuring high quality standards are being met.

Responsible for being knowledgeable of safety and emergency plan manual procedures for both the department and the organization.

Extensive desktop publishing software using Macintosh personal computer, photographic equipment, large format printer, folding machine and cutting equipment.

Supervision, direction, or guidance provided for this position:

Supervisor assigns priorities.

Incumbent performs most duties without direct supervision.

Physical Requirements of this Position:

The Graphic Designer II is a primarily onsite position.

Occasional remote work flexibility may be available if requested.

Medium Work: Position involves ability to frequently or constantly exert up to 20 pounds of force and occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force to move objects.
